Not to sound like I'm advertising for Apple, but iTunes plus is just awesome. The higher bit-rates really do sound better, but that's not why I love it.
In 2005, the hard drive on my PowerBook G4 bit the dust, and I had no back up.
And last year, when I finally replaced the PowerBook, I mirrored the hard drive onto my backup drive, then erased the internal drive before selling it on eBay and shipping it across the country. And the backup drive chose THAT moment to shit the bed.
Both times, I lost music files I'd purchased from the iTunes store, and they don't let you re-download them.
So, just for a lark, I took a look at the "Upgrade your purchases to iTunes+" feature, and to my surprise, it was a listing of EVERY song I'd ever purchased, not just the ones I actually still had!
So for short money I was able to recover 36 songs I thought I'd lost for good.
Dave is happy.
Oh, and the higher quality is a lovely side bonus.
