The family and I went on a road trip from Cali to Illinois to see my daughter graduate boot camp. Straight through, three drivers. 
We get to the La Quinta, and although the wife had called earlier and let them know we were on our way but would be very late (11:30 or so) we still wanted the room.
So, you know, they let the room go.
We got in, and asked about the room, and the night clerk (also supervisor) found us a room for the night. Smoking, and it looked like the 'ah shit' room, but after 36+ hours we just wanted to be horizontal for a bit.
Next morning, they hook us up with the non-smoking, and it looks brand new, even smells of premade wood furniture it is so fresh!
So, much thanks to the guy running the nights, and kudos for sounding (and looking, a bit) like Vin Diesel.
(My son commented he would NOT want to be the one who dumed our reservation when that guy got him!)
