BG: Well yesterday my store had customer/associate appreciation day. We do this every year and it's a huge barbecue held outside the store with free food for anyone who shows up.
Today was very busy. And I hate it when the phone rings. It's never anything good, and even when it's not particularly bad, it's usually people asking us when we close. People who are in there several times a day, seven days a week will ask us when we close, but that's sidetracking a bit.
Anyway, the phone rings and I pick up
Me: *store name*, how may I help you?
C: Yes, your store manager... His name is J, right?
Me: .... Yes, ma'am, it is.
C: Oh! Okay, thank you. I'm just writing a thank you note to the store for the customer appreciation thing you guys did yesterday and I wanted to make sure I had his name right.
Me: *short stunned silence* Well thank you, ma'am. Did you need anything else?
C: No, no! Thank you and have a great day!
Me: *for once, actually meaning it* You, too, ma'am!
That just made me really happy for some reason. I mean, we'd be nowhere without our customers, so we like having the BBQ to show them that we actually do like having them come in, but it's nice to know that the effort isn't going unnoticed.
