I had to go to training class today for work. The guy leading it was amazing, he actaully made boring ass company policy worth learning, had a good enough background within the company and several others so he could relate clear examples.
For one scenario, I even volunteered to be a disgruntled customer and because of my knowledge gained from these boards I actually got the class laughing because I did so well the person playing the manager was stumped and didn't have any idea how to save the employee who was also stumped or that she could try and jump in until I threw her a life jacket after just staring at each other for long enough to get a response. I turned and went "Who are you and why are you staring at me, get your manager". Trainer was a little shocked at how well I can be an jerk and wondered if I have ever acted.
Also, got to learn how HORRIBLE my store is at following guidelines. WAY to much that we are supposed to do that doesn't get done that I felt bad few people were on top of everything when it came to answering but noticed just as many clueless people with years more than me.
It was nice to walk out of that room feeling empowered, granted that will all be smashed the next time I work but for now I will feel that there is hope to go somewhere other than just being a cashier. It nice to know not all higher ups are idiots and that if you actually teach your employees to do tasks of future jobs early they won't be as bored and can be helpful if something happens..
