  • Great Stylists-In-Training

Due to being in a constant money pinch, I tend to go for most of my hair cuts and colorings from the local hair academy.

I've gotten a different girl every time, and they've all been very great. Today's girl, went above and beyond, I feel.

What I like most about that place is that, even though they aren't "real" cosmetologists yet, it's more of a salon than a school. The students spend all but one day a week on the floor (one day per week in classes, so it rotates). It's a one year program with Redken. So, all day long, it's like they are working in a real salon with real (good) products and tools. The prices are much cheaper than at a real salon, but with real salon products and tools. They learn communication along with styling and coloring. They also offer massages, mani-pedis, facials, etc, which they all learn how to do besides just hair.

There are also teachers on hand, who are actual cosmetologists themselves, who supervise and "ok" everything before they do your hair and inspect it when it's done.

What I think is the coolest of all is if you refer your friends, they get a discount on their first visit, and you get a discount on your next visit.

Plus, the looks on their faces when they get tips is just awesome.
