Only if it's high def. At standard def, 5 GB is about seven 2 hour movies. So that's about 77 to 80 movies.

nah, I really don't even download video-- it's either youtube or dvd for me. ... Or film.
The only I thing I want to save to my computer is stills and texts and such. If I want the vid, I buy a hard copy-- I'm paranoid and have redonk-high standards for what I want to watch over and over and over again (thus warrants an acquisition). Or, really, I'm just redonkly picky!

...and I thought my brother was bad! Several months back, his computer started having issues. It would randomly restart itself, games wouldn't load, etc. I brought it home, saved what I could...but I told him in no uncertain terms, that I was *not* going to back up the 100GB of pron, nor was I going to attempt to re-download all that crap

Well, when you consider the resolution that a modern digital camera can provide... I wouldn't be surprised to find individual photos taking 1MB or more if he actually has a subscription to a site. I'm not sure what the average number of photos per collection is. So he might only have a few dozen collections.

It's not... bad stuff. It's pretty much all yaoi manga (not even shota, thank you). And I do all my own computer repairs. Built the thing myself. Still... can't be too careful.

My boyfriend stores porn on his 1TB external hard drive. And he still has space to store a good chunk of movies (stuff he's ripped straight to the computer so he has backups), some music, some games and his Viking stuff.

Honestly, storing anything important on removable media is a bad idea. You should keep most things on a cloud service, or better yet, on redundant drive arrays in your own personal home server, and have an off-site backup. (Make sure the PSU has OVP, or you could lose all the drives at once.) If it's something you don't want just anyone to have access to (and I'm not talking government; think tax documents, passwords, whatnot), put it in an encrypted volume. (TrueCrypt is great for this.)

With all the YouTube type of sites that offer online porn nowadays, why bother even saving anything to your computer *unless* it was illegal?

Well, first, who wants to have to use all that bandwidth over and over? Save it, and it's always right at your fingertips.

Also, what if your 'net goes out?
What if it gets removed from the site (by site or owner)?
What if the site has an outage?
What if the site gets rearranged and your bookmarks no longer work?

External drives are your friend when dealing with media of any type or nature.
