Aha, maybe if I ever track down what was causing my XP drive to not boot that's what I can do with it.

I have my system set up to dual boot in Win7 and WinXP. I have some pieces of software that just outright refuse to work in Win7, the emulator in the premium version won't work either and the programs have stopped getting updates LONG ago.

I still have an XP hard drive somewhere.

I don't have many complaints about 7, except for Windows Media Player (Win7 forced me to 'upgrade' from WMP10 before it would play any of my files properly, WMP11 is having intermittent arcane issues with my music library).

I've been pretty lucky with Windows OSes. all have been pretty much stable for me. it was the computers themselves that would fail on a schedule. (near enough every three years. It's got to the point where I can predict it.)

Wonder how much they're going to screw up Windows 8? I've already heard they've removed the Start button. That's not a good omen in my book . . .

It's not that they've removed the start button, it's that they have drastically changed the UI. The default in Windows 8 is "Metro" which looks pretty much like the Windows Phone 7 OS. Thankfully there is still an option to get the classic desktop with start button.

I've had a couple of BSOD's with XP, but (so far...and I'm knocking on wood) none with 7. Maybe Micro$haft finally got their $hit together?

Wonder how much they're going to screw up Windows 8? I've already heard they've removed the Start button. That's not a good omen in my book . . .

like some others I have had Win 286, 386, 3.0, 3.11, 95, ME (brief time at work), XP, Vista and now 7

XP and Vista for me seem the most stable with doing video editing and rendering, video transfer (VHS to digital then to DVD) and some of the other things I do

Win 7 has given me by far the most BSODs (10 or so in a 2 week period) than any other version of Windows (most likely becasue of a fracked up video card system driver that was slightly out of date)

I like Windows CEMeNT myself.

That's Vista all right . . .

XP was fairly decent but 7 IMO seems more stable . . . I've had my laptop almost a year now and I don't think I recall one BSOD with Win 7.

I called it the Migraine Edition. I've only seen ONE install on hardware that jived and worked. Uno. ONE. Eine. Single. More than 0 and less than 2.

My ex had it on a new PC and downgraded back to 98.

I can tell you of a second computer that WinMe worked fine on, mine. I never had any problem with it. Since Windows 3.1, I have had Windows 98 Second Ed. Windows Me, Windows Vista and now Windows 7. It was Windows XP I had problems with. I could never get it to work properly.

I was once told that Vista was the public beta for Win7.

It's funny, when I worked retail Vista had come out and the Microsoft rep was touting it as the best thing ever (as expected, it was his job) and every time I would say how his company doesn't have a spotless record. He of course would question it and I would mention Windows ME. The response was "well we don't talk about that anymore."

Guess not.

Of course, I doubt they're talking about Vista much anymore either. That OS is a royal PITA in my book.
