A little background. I am not officially in IT. I just play one on TV. I do however run the companies websites. The one in question is a intranet, only accessible to our company. So a IT persons emails me and the following email take place. (Emails edited with generic names)

    From IT Person:
Jon and Jane have a new employee who will be working in the other wrong name area (WN). We actually have several of those but this gentleman is housed here at Corporate. I was wondering how difficult it might be to add the department “WN” to the list for the intranet.
Before I could respond, the it person sends this:
CORRECTION: please add the department, “Correct Department Name”.
    My first response:
When you add or edit an employee on the intranet, you can type in the department. If it’s a new department, it might generate an error, but it generally goes though. There is no checks on that old code.
    IT Person:
Okay. Thanks. How do we delete the ones no longer used? Oh, and by the way, there are two for Other Department.
    My response:
It generates the list based on what is entered in the employee’s department.
    IT Person:
Okay, I understand that but if people just type it in instead of using the dropdown, we could accumulate quite a few duplicates. So, my question is . . .how can the dups be deleted?
I am just not sure how to respond to this. So I talked to their manager about it. Hopefully the it manager will explain to the it person. This is just one of the examples of this coworker that is in IT support, not really being able to support themselves.

Just had to share. Thanks for reading.
