View Full Version : It's time for Peep Jousting!
1. Get a box of Peeps - You'll need chicks, not bunnies
2. Lick the side of the Peep (the marshmallow side where it was connected to its brothers/sisters).
3. Stick a toothpick on the spot you licked, it should hold.
4. Do the same to another Peep.
5. Put them on a plate facing one another, an inch or so apart.
6. Microwave for 10-20 seconds.
The first Peep to poke and deflate its opponent is the victor! Repeat as needed. There can be only one!
:) :) :) :)
Ewwwww Peeps! Nasty nasty nasty nasty.................
Mmmm....I love peeps.
Yeah, I'm weird.
I actually found a recipe to make my own this year, but my arm was out of commission, making things a little difficult to manoeuver in the kitchen so it will have to wait until next year.

Oooh, you don't say? Share?
This recipe makes approximately 25 marshmallow peeps. The ingredients you will need are sugar, light corn syrup, eggs, unflavored gelatin, water, colored sugars and vanilla extract. The cooking materials you will need are a small saucepan, a candy thermometer, a whisk, an electric mixer, a large pastry bag, and waxed paper.
Ingredients
1 cup confectioners' sugar for dusting
2 cups white sugar
1 tablespoon light corn syrup
1 1/4 cups water, divided
4 tablespoons unflavored gelatin
2 egg whites
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1. In a small saucepan over medium-high heat, stir together sugar, corn syrup and 3/4-cup water. Bring the mixture to a boil. While boiling, attach a candy thermometer to the pot so that the tip is immersed in the liquid, but not touching the bottom of the pot. Watch the temperature carefully until it reaches the hard-ball stage -- when the thermometer reads 250 to 260 degrees F (121 to 129 degrees C).
2. While the sugar mixture is heating, place the remaining water in a metal bowl and sprinkle the gelatin over it. Place the bowl over simmering water and stir until the gelatin is dissolved and the mixture becomes liquid. Keep this gelatin mixture warm until the sugar comes to the proper temperature. As soon as the sugar mixture reaches the hard-ball stage and you remove it from heat, carefully whisk in the gelatin mixture. Meanwhile, use an electric mixer to whip the egg whites into soft peaks. (You can tell that eggs have reached the soft-peak stage when you take a spoon, dip it in and out of the egg mixture, and a peak is formed that is soft enough to quickly bend over.)
3. Once the peaks have formed, set the electric mixer to medium-speed and slowly pour the sugar mixture into the bowl of whipped egg whites. When pouring the sugar mixture into the mixing bowl, never let the stream of liquid grow larger than a pencil's width. Once all of the sugar has been incorporated into the egg whites, add the vanilla extract and continue mixing at a medium-speed until the mixture cannot become any fluffier. Add any additional colorings or flavorings at this time.
4. Line a flat surface with waxed paper and sprinkle it with a generous coating of confectioner's sugar. Use a large pastry bag with at least a 1/2-inch opening or tip. Carefully spoon the sticky marshmallow fluff into the bag and twist the top closed. Pipe the body of the chick shape first by making a thick line on the paper. Hold the bag at a 45-degree angle to the surface so that the piping will stand tall.
5. When the body is long enough, pipe backwards on top of the body, and then make a little head.
6. Sprinkle colored sugar over the chick's body. To coat the marshmallow chicks completely, let them set for 30 minutes before buttering your hands (for easier handling) and rolling them in bowls full of colored sugar.
To color sugar, simply place fine granulated sugar in a zip-loc bag and add a bit of either liquid or paste color. Seal and shake well to blend color. Always start with a small amount of color as it's easier to add more, rather than take it away if it's too dark.
7. Let the marshmallow chicks rest for approximately 4 hours to allow them time to fully set.
8. If you want to make the bunnies, line the bottom and sides of a 13- by 9-inch baking pan with plastic wrap; oil and then generously dust bottom and sides with some confectioner's sugar.
9. Pour the marshmallow mixture into the prepared pan; smooth the top and sprinkle liberally with colored sugar of your choice. Let the pan stand, uncovered, at room temperature to dry out.
NOTE: Depending on the humidity, this may happen in several hours or take up to 8 hours. Generally speaking the longer you let it set up, the easier the marshmallow sheet will be to cut.
10. When ready to cut, invert the pan of marshmallow onto a clean cutting surface; remove the plastic wrap and coat the top with colored sugar (it should adhere easily).
11. Use cookie cutters to stamp out your peeps (or bunnies) and toss them in a bowl of sugar to coat the edges. If you find your cookie cutter getting sticky, was it and lightly coat with vegetable oil. With a toothpick apply a dot of chocolate to form an eye.
Store the marshmallow peeps in an airtight container.

I love Peeps too but they have to be stale. My blue bunnies should be ready in a few weeks...

My swordfight was a bust. The swords kinda tilted down and the tips ended up on the plate. Oh well. Red vs. Yellow ended in S'mores. :p (yummy)

My "stepson" really likes them, for some reason. Guess what he got in his Easter basket from me?

I was amazed they didn't dissolve or have any reaction to being floated in and injected with sulfuric acid.

DIdn't work for me. The first attempt ended with neither Peeps' lance even coming close. I started the lances sticking farther out the next time, but they tolted down too fast. Unfortunately, I had no more Peeps to try this with

Actually, I prefer my Peeps frozen. I usually start w/biting their heads off, BTW.
I know . . . I gotta let out the steam somehow.
A friend of mine told me about this, but I was having the same problem with the peep fighters lowering their spears. So I found a better method - jab the toothpicks through their chests.

I found that site years ago. Some people have way too much time on their hands. People who read about Peeps research, for instance ;)
I think I want to try a purple bunny s'mores...hope mom didn't eat the last bit of the chocolate bar...riffle, riffle...nope, still there! Back in a minute!
