So I had a rough week. First the thing going to work on Monday then just an all around crappy week at work and then, yesterday, getting sick. Strep throat. Caught it from one of the partners at the firm.
So I took today off and was going to be driving home to Momma's (4 hours from where I live and work for now) once I woke up.
So I slept til 10:30 ish and left Sav. about 11:30. No big deal, no problems until about two hours in when I hear a tell tale "whump-whump-whump" and flapping which, generally, indicates a flat tire.
Which it did, sadly.
So I'm pulled over on the side of the road, about the cry cause I'm sick and stressed out and while I have a spare tire in my car, I do NOT have a jack or a socket that will fit in the rim (really -- I never even THOUGHT to check to be sure the socket fit and I have NO idea where the jack is, cause I had one a month ago!) . So I figure, okay, I'll walk back to that exit about a mile back, go to a gas station and see if someone can lend me a jack or if the have one or I'll call someone. No big deal.
As SOON as I start walking, three trucks pull over. One of them is a Georgia Department of Transportation truck, one a big rig and one just a normal truck. The DOT guys say they have it, but the trucker stays anyway, parked behind us, so no one comes over the hill and hits us.
So these three guys get my little car all jacked up (it's lowered, so that in and of itself was a feat) and get my tire changed (lord, that thing was SHREDDED -- no clue what I hit) and the spare on and then insist on leading me to this tire shop in Macon they knew of where one of them knew the owner and "would trust this guy to take care of [his] girlfriend or daughter -- he'll be good to you". So we get it there and they wait to be sure he has a tire that will fit on my car!
He does and we get it all changed and I get home, but I was just impressed with how these guys were willing to stop what they were doing and help someone out on the side of the road. Now granted, I'm sure they probably thought I am much younger than I am (that thought crossed my mind after it was all over) but still, they didn't know me from Adam and they pulled over to help me.
Kinda restores my faith in humanity, even if only a little.
So thanks to those great guys that stopped to help a stranded girl. IT means more than you probably realize! :p
