I thought maybe we could start a customerssuck bookclub.
We could start off with books about crappy customers or more literary ones...
I just want to see how many people would be interested and what people would like to read.
Since the original "Literary" forum only allows for ratings and no replies, and is more for people to show off their own talents, rather than discussing the work of others, I have moved this to Off Topic. :)

I'm for it because I read constantly. Name the book, I've probably read it.

I'd be down. I read quite a lot, and especially now that I work Sundays.

i could get into it as long as the books aren't long and boring. i did enough of that kind of reading in school.;)
I used to be part of a reading club. I worked at a book club that manufactured the books it sold, so I could get up to 25 copies at publisher's cost, which was between $1 and $2.
People almost cried when I quit... "You can't quit. I love your job."

I'd be interested...I love to read, though my brain hasn't been too into it lately. I've barely been able to get through a whole magazine article in one sitting lately. Just can't concentrate...
I like to read just about anything, mostly fiction, history, cultural studies, some current affairs, some science/health type stuff (aimed at general readers, not scientists, of course)...I'll try to think of some good stuff. My ex runs a history discussion group at his store; I could see what his group enjoyed if anyone's into history.
Right now I am *trying* to read Collapse by Jared Diamond, but I can't seem to get into it. I had the same problem with his Guns, Germs and Steel. I am also sort of reading the Politically Incorrect Guide to Global Warming, by someone whose name escapes me at the moment. Both of them belong to my ex. I hope he doesn't want them back when I see him next week.
Actually, I mentioned one in another thread that I highly recommend, Shadow Divers by Robert Kurson. It's history (I believe BN puts it in World War II), it's about a WWII German submarine wreck found off the coast of New Jersey. It's really interesting and extremely well written. I'll say this much: there's one part where the one diver gets into a very small area of the sub and nearly runs out of air before he can get out. I was holding my breath reading this part, like I didn't know what happened to him - and I read the book a week after I had MET the guy! Here's a link (http://search.barnesandnoble.com/booksearch/isbnInquiry.asp?z=y&EAN=9780345482471&itm=3)if anyone wants to check it out. The author has a new book coming out next month, too.

We all seem to have different tastes, so I will pull up a list of completely random books and see if we can get to agree on the first book?

I'm in! I read everything! (My husband says ' If it has words, she'll read it...')
As an example, right now I'm reading 'The Screwtape Letters' by C.S. Lewis, 'Teach your child to read in 60 days'-Sidney Ledson, P.N Elrod's Vampire Files, and a Psychology textbook. :D
BTW, BSE, once you get into Guns, Germs, and Steel, it gets better. I thoroughly enjoyed it after about the second chapter.

Sure, I'll join, I been needing to read a book again, but I too can't concentrate. Maybe if we all read the same book, I'd get into it.

I have this small list of books
White Oleander -Janet Firth
Bound -Donna Jo Napoli
Middlesex -Jeffrey Eugenides
Twinkie, Deconstructed - Steve Ettlinger
Guns, germs and Steel -Jared Diamond (at least two people have read it so that's included)

Could everybody post on what they would like to read, maybe in order of preference?

Twinkie, Deconstructed? Where'd you get that idea? (wink, wink) That's only in hardcover, though, and likely too new to be in the library, so I don't know if people will want to spend that much.
I have read White Oleander (back when it first came out, I actually have the advanced readers' copy, so it's been a while).
I have been meaning to read Middlesex, but I am also willing to give Guns, Germs and Steel another go.
Ooh, another good one is Forever by Pete Hamill. Historical fiction with a bit of magic thrown in (it's about a guy who goes from Ireland to New York in the 1600s(?) to avenge his mother's death, and has a spell put on him that lets him live forever as long as he never leaves Manhattan, and goes all the way to the present day...) That's a bad description but it's a good book. I've been meaning to buy it. I would also recommend Jodi Picoult, namely The Pact, My Sister's Keeper, Plain Truth, Vanishing Acts, The Tenth Circle ... OK that's all the ones I've read and she has more I'd like to read, too...someday...
You probably shouldn't ask me too much, I have tons of little scraps of paper around my room of things I want to read...someday...:)

White Oleander would be my first choice. That one sounds pretty good. And anybody who wants to buy a cheap copy of it can get it on amazon.com really cheap. They have used ones for like 1 cent. With shipping and handling you only pay $3.50 or so to get the book and have it mailed to you. Can't beat that.:D
