OK, I'll make it short and sweet. I'm trying to build a RAID 5 array using five 250 GB hard drives on my fileserver. I want to do it via software in winXP. I can find plenty of FAQs telling me how to do it. I have to modify a few files in a Hex editor to get windows to allow me to use RAID 5. That part I know how to do.

The part I need help with is how do I back up the configuration so, if my OS decides to go 6 feet under, I can simply reload the OS, reapply the moded files, and have access to all my data. I remember reading awhile ago that there is a single configuration file that I can backip and copy back into the proper location and windows will then recognise the software RAID Array. However, I don't remember what file or where it is. That's what I need your help for.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

oooh, fun fun stuff. The best thing to do is "ghost" the hard-drive once it's "set-up". But without ghosting, it's very difficult to do. Basically it involves "exporting" your complete registry (in pieces) and importing it all back in during the rebuild. (you basically have to install the OS with plug and play turn off and not let it pick up on all the hardware). Hardware registry adjusting is very very picky and can make the OS treat you like the devil himself.

That's what I thought I would have to do. *Sigh* I'll do a fresh install then do a ghost.
