I have this pretty ivy plant I bought from Walmart for like $2 last month and it's gotten really big. Thing is, my crazy kitten keeps attacking it! Twice I've found it on its side, with dirt everywhere, and a piece of the ivy 4 feet away. I've even tried putting it on the kitchen counter, and I have no idea how, but she still managed to get up there and knock it over! Augh. I'm thinking of buying a heavier pot for it, so she can't knock it over that easy, but then she might just dig in the dirt and pull out pieces of the ivy. :( How do I make her stop?

[by the way, she's about 10 weeks old, so, hyper all. the. time.]

Get rid of it. Ivy is very poisonous to cats. If it eats enough, and it will, it will die.

I agree with Hotelboy. Kitties and ivy should not mix.

But ivy is good at cleaning the air and I kind of need that with the lung problems I've been having lately. Right now it's on the upper most cupboards in my kitchen...

Cats can get anywhere... and cats love to chew on plants. I guess if your lung problem is so bad that you need Ivy, get rid of the cat. However, if you can think of an alternative method of helping your lungs, get rid of the ivy. I wouldn't have a plant in my house that is poisonous to my cat.

Just do what I did. I have several ivy plants before I got my two cats and didnt know they were poisionous to them. When i found that out I went a bought the hanging baskets, so I hung them out of reach and away from stuff they could jump on to get near them.:D

The cat's most likely also eating the ivy, so IMO she probably has a dietary imblance and eating the ivy to correct it. Take her to the vet for a checkup and ask the vet about what you should be feeding her.

My kitten is fine, thanks. She's not eating it, the leaves don't have bite marks. She's just pulling out bits and pieces.

this may seem odd but she probably like the fact that it moves-maybe try finding her a mobile made for a baby crib and hang it where she can safely play with it.....

BlaqueKatt-who alwa.....oooo Shiny thing!

In my apartment, I had windows with a rather deep sill. So I put the plants on the sill and put a baby gate on the edge of the window.

Kept the kittens out of the cacti.

I think that hanging baskets are a good idea.

don't forget, any green plant cleans the air, and cats aren't fond of cactus...:p

I have a few catnip-filled toys, but she doesn't seem all that interested in the "weed". She likes the stuff turtle I got her more. :)

My cats are rather fond of my Christmas cactus.

If you want the air to be clean, you can buy an air purifier from Wal-Mart, Sears or Canadian Tire-you'd probably want one that comes with a HEPA filter. They filter out more mircoscopic allergens than a standard filter.

But ivy is a heckuva lot cheaper!!
