I got a knock on my door the yesterday. It was a cop. He says that earlier that day, I was drving around blasting "Innappropriate Music" out of my car.

True. I was blasting the music, but it was not innappropriate. I remember clearly too what song it was: "Hey Boy" by Teddybears STHLM. I was going to my ex-work to pick up my last paycheck, and since it was less than 5 minutes away, that was the only song I listened to.

Anyways, the cop said some little old lady was driving and got offended by it, took down my plates and called the cops.

Cop: (sheepishly) Did you play innappropriate music?
Me: No, but it was loud.
Cop: Okay your fine then. Just, FYI, keep the music down next time.
Me: Ok.

Cop left and I laughed.

If you want to hear the "innapropriate song," here it is (http://www.myspace.com/angelodsmusic). Only the beginining has some cursing.

Hm, so I should stop blasting my ACDC, Black Sabbath, Rammstein, etc in my car?

I can understand about the cops telling you about having it too high, but what business is it of anyones whether it was "appropriate" or not?

I don't get offended by lyrics but I keep my radio down and/or windows up, etc.

I generally figure that since I really don't want to listen to your (meaning other drivers) music- you probably don't want to listen to mine either. Nothing more annoying than enjoying a song I love and have it drowned out by the car next to me.

Ummm...I had it on my imitation Ipod, but I first heard it here (http://www.millan.net/funp/120/polkstreet.html).

Wow, I didn't know that you could report something like that. If I took offense to anything loud (inappropriate or not) music from cars - I'd be on the phone with the cops all day every day where I live.

I think the city has an ordinance that pertains to volume, not content, which is why I got off free, since she only complained about the content.

I thought most old people were hard of hearing! Stupid old bitty needs to get a new hobby.

Loud music....is obnoxious and kind of rude if you have all the windows down and are only going like....25 mph lol............but "inappropriate"?

HELL....if I could report "inappropriate music", I'd report every single hillbilly in town for playing that god awful country music.

Some people, (especially old ones) need to get a life.

Lol, I always knew that hard of hearing excuse is crap! People who are hard of hearing always seem to hear stuff that they never should.

Heh, and I'd also report all those people playing that pop-crap people call music.

Oh, well, shoot! I was playing a couple of songs at work the other night that, although really rather tame, I was surprised some holier-than-thou didn't complain about. That's right folks, I was playin' "Talk Dirty to Me" and "I Want Action" by Poison!!  Of course, it was about 10:30 on a Friday night! :p

Anyway, who's to say what's "inappropriate"?

BTW - Love that song by Teddybears STHLM!

I'd nail every wannabe "gangsta" (usually some stupid white kid from the 'burbs) for playing that god awful (c)rap "music." I could never understand the point of having one's bass turned up so loud. To me, the resulting thumping sounds like your engine is about to throw a rod :D

I can't believe the cop even went to your place about this one. It's hard enough getting them to come out for an actual crime.

Stupid.

Chick used to come into Kinko's all the time complaining about the music (usually, it was set on 80's pop, 70's rock, or in a couple cases, jazz, which I hate.) It was never loud, because Kinko's is already loud, and we had to be able to hear over it. )

After she complained that "We needed to turn it off because it gave her a headache." every time she came into the store, one of the Asst. Managers actually told her she needed to bring in some earplugs, because if that was a problem she knew she was gonna have, she should take her own measures to protect herself. She didn't much like that, but she quit bitching.

Most cops don't like having to come out for stupid things. For example, my neighbors have called the cops on us for various stupid things over the years. Things such as...parking a car in front of their house (on a public street), playing in our backyard, hanging the laundry outside to dry, and other "offenses." The cops don't have a choice, but they have to come. Even so, they don't even bother writing up a report on that crap--all they would do was "talk" with us, and say that the idiots called the cops. That was it. Gotta love it when you know most of them :D

Yeah I know Protege. When I was growing up we had this dumb ass old couple across the street a few houses down that was always calling the cops on us and other people for stupid shit. They would always call the health department on my parents for letting our dog poop in the yard, saying we werent picking it up. Funny thing is that another neighbor got called on and blamed my parents for it. After like the tenth time in coming out they frustratingly said they havent found anything that was a violation and that they were sorry to have to keep coming out like that but they have to respond to any call they get no matter what and they were getting fed up with them calling all the time. The calls finally stopped after they both (thankfully) died.

You're not allowed to hang out laundry to dry?
Several years ago I was dove hunting and a woman that lived near the field we were hunting called the sherrif's dept to complain. The deputy drove up to where we parked our trucks and tried by using his PA to get someone to come over to him. No one did and he wouldn't come out into the field. The woman was trying to goad him into running us off but he was afraid of us because we also had guns. The LEO did call the possum cops and they checked our hunting license's and our permission to hunt slips and we were good to go. He told her we were legal and to stop calling.
I always thought when we bought our farm that we would be immune from the nosey neighbors but now that I have sub-divisions to either side you can't swing a dead cat without hitting a nosey neighbor. One thing I have going for me is that my land isn't in the city but county so I'm not subject to city ordinaces.

Back on topic: I really wish the LEOs would cite more folks for noise, if I can't hear my radio in my car with the windows up and the AC on, for your noise then it's too loud. I also think it should apply to loud cars, motorcycles, and trucks, those fart can mufflers the kids are putting on their rice-rockets should be vented into their car. Even when I was a kid I didn't like loud noise for noise's sake, maybe I've been a old-fuddy-dutty for longer than I thought.

Some one reported me for playing really loud and offensive music once. It was actually the SUV next to me, but that didnt matter. The cops were really nice when I explained that it could in no way be me because I HAVE NO STEREO IN MY CAR!!!!. I stopped working so I just ripped it out.

It's allowed, it's just they don't like seeing any "unsightly" objects in yards. In fact, shortly after they moved in, they actually sent the people on the other side a certified letter about the "unsightly" kiddie pool that was in their yard. They also complained about the guy up the street who had a lawn care business...who had his truck and trailer parked in his driveway. This last thing is tecnically illegal, since there's an ordinance, but it's rarely enforced.

Getting back onto the music thing...I should mention that these idiots tried to get us busted for having loud music one day. It was kinda loud, but we were having a party outside, and the cops already knew about it--we'd called them the night before to tell them that the street might have a few extra cars on it. Here's the kicker though...the idiots next door have *their* music so loud you can usually hear it on the street!

Heh, from the title of the post, I thought this was going to be about songs converted to Musak that shouldn't be.

My Grandmother listens to a Musak radio station all the time (seriously, they apparently have one in Colorado Springs). One day I was in the back seat while my mom was driving the three of us to lunch, and the song playing caught my ear. Imagine my horror when I realized that the sound playing in a soft, inoffensive, instrumental manner was...Plush by Stone Temple Pilots.

I have never been so weirded out in my life.

I take it you're referring to the pretty-much-extinct "Beautiful Music" format. Believe it or not that format was so popular thirty years ago the majority of radio stations then had that format.

These are the type of folks that seriously need to live in a tract that has a Homeowner's Association.
