Back in 2004, my dad went into surgery to have a skin cancer tumor removed from the back of his neck. When they put him under, they tried to put a tube down his throat, but it wasn't successful (I guess the tube was to help him breathe or something). Anyways, since that time, my father has had trouble swallowing while eating.

Now, it's 2006, and my father finally told his doctor, and this past Monday (7/24), he went in for a procedure to find out why his throat isn't right. The doctor found out that my dad has a hyenal(sp?) hernia and my father's throat was so swollen, they weren't able to do all of the procedures the doctor wanted to do! The did take a biopsy of my dad's throat and esophogaus(sp?) but he won't be finding out anything for 2 weeks and I'm really worried.

Any prayers and thoughts for my dad would be appreciated. (I have a lousy track record for prayers, so I need all the help I can get).

Best thoughts and wishes to him, and also to you and the rest of your family. A stressful time for all, no doubt. Hopefully all will end up wonderfully for him. In the meantime, try not to panic too much until something is known. No point worrying if it's gonna come to nothing. :)

I know it's scary when anything happens to your dad. But, just to hopefully put your mind a little at ease....My grandfather had a hiadal hernia for years. It's something that you have to adjust to and sometimes just need to learn to live with, but it shouldn't be life threatening.

I will light a candle for him and for you as well.

Hugs, love, and light,
Pagan

If it makes you feel any better, I had a (I do believe this is the name you meant, but I could be wrong... if so mine is different) hiatal hernia. Basically it's when your stomach extends into your chest cavity. Usually they are a mild hernia and cause little problems aside from trouble swallowing, acid reflux and stuff of that nature. Here's a link with more information: Clicky Clicky (http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/hiatal-hernia/DS00099)

Mine was removed when I had my stomach surgery and was an easy fix. The doctors seemed to think it was quite common and not a major problem.

I'll keep your father in my prayers, though.
