Hey all! Well, summer is just around the corner, and for many of us students that means summer jobs. Over Spring Break I applied at this fun little place called The Bear Mill. I have an interview on Wednesday and I'm 95% sure I'll get the job.

Thing is, as many of you know, I am employed at a dayschool. these people have been giving me crappy hours ever since I moved away to school. They only give me the afternoon 3-hour shifts. I made sure to call them over Spring Break, thinking that if I told them that I would be available all summer, I would be able to secure better hours this time.

Nope.

Again, they have given me only 15 hrs/week.

I'm so ticked. I'm graduating at Christmas and I NEED the money; I can't work during Student Teaching. I think I'd like to quit.

On the one hand, I have a 15 hr/week job secured. I've been with the school for 3 years and they're depending on me to be there for those 3 hours/day (there are 2 teachers in each room at all times; I am needed). I guess I could theoretically only tell The Bear Mill I'm only available in the mornings on weekdays and all day Saturday.

On the other hand . . . I need better hours. I feel like the school is screwing me over because I went away to uni. If I tell TBM my availability, that may not be enough. I may not get the job,

Should I quit the school, or just keep both jobs? If I quit, what do I tell the school? What do I tell TBM about my situation/2 weeks notice if i do quit the school?

Ooh, this is a really tough call, but I think I'd try to keep both jobs and see how it goes. And be honest with both employers, telling them you need the hours that both places provide. If TBM likes you, then I'm sure they'll understand, and a lot of places will work around your schedule if you're a good employee (which I'm sure you are, K)! :D I'll be working two jobs this summer, myself, so good luck!

Tough call. I don't want to tell you to give up what you enjoy, but they can't expect you to live on 15 hours a week. I couldn't live on that in high school when I didn't have bills and responsibilities.

Do some soul-searching. Pray about it. Do what works best for you. That's about the best I have.
