View Full Version : I feel so ashamed of myself...

Spiffy McMoron

...because I finally joined the 20th century and bought a friggin' cell phone.

*Sigh*

I'd resisted so long, and was so proud of myself...

Now I know what it feels like to fall off the wagon.

Welcome to the communion. Resistence was futile. Your essence joins and strengthens us the cell users of the world. Soon all humans will be one with us.

:D

Actually, some of those goofy Bluetooth ear plugs could pass as part of a Borg Collective outfit. :p

Think about it - you can do what I do ... not turn it on unless you need to use it!

Don't feel ashamed that youve taken this long to join us in the world of annoying ringtones.

If it makes you feel any better, I haven't seen the movie 'Pretty Woman,'

...everyone tells me that's shameful!

*GASP!* Spiffy... you've left me all alone on the non-cel owner's island!

Now, I am truly the last of my kind... *key in bad Sci-Fi movie music*

I have no clue why, but this made me almost spew orange juice out of my nose. I don't know ... Maybe it was the bad Sci-Fi movie music key. Thanks for the laugh/snerk.

NightAngel, you aren't the last.
I, too, have resisted and have yet to fall prey to this insidious contraption.
I've come close several times, but I just couldn't do it.
I don't want to be one of 'those people' (no offense to any of 'those people').

It's like INVASION OF THE BODY SNATCHERS where everyone is being taken over by cell phone...pods...or something, and I'm staring at Donald Sutherland while he's shrieking and pointing at me.

:) Don't worry, I still don't have a cell phone. Heck, I never even got a pager. I got my work phone, home phone, and if I'm out, I'm usually with someone who has a cell phone, so I can use theirs.

I also have yet to see Pretty Woman.

I'm with Raps...just turn the friggin' thing off when you can't be bothered (which, for me, is most of the time). ;)

Personally, I'm more amazed that a quasi-geek like yourself managed to resist the allure of the Gadgetrons for so long, Spiff. :p

I have a mobile phone, but no landline, so I figure that cancels out my annoyance status.

Same here. My cell phone is my only phone. It's cheaper and I can take it with me where ever I go.
I don't use it very often, and I'm not one to talk on it just to hear my own voice, so to speak.

For the record, I have yet to see Pretty Woman. I don't like documentaries, anyway. :p

And I had thought about getting a phone in the past, but I got ready annoyed at people texting each other...who were in the same friggin' building! Plus, I rly kan't stnd pepl who snd txt lk thiz. The phone will fill in the blanks for you! You're misspelling words on purpose! What the fuck is wrong with you?!?

Plus, I seem to know a lot of people who download crap like Akon, Gwen Stefani, 50 Cent, etc. as ringtones, then will play out the ringtone and dance along like a spastic monkey to a tinny, annoying, $4 clip of a song. Bah! Be gone with such nonsense!

Look at the bright side. If you have a problem, don't feel like paying your bill, or just wake up on the wrong side of the bed, you can call in and scream at me.

Really? Can I do that too? Probably be more fun than handing out GK's number at the mental hospital...

I have a cell phone, but only coz I refuse to give any more money to the landline telecommunications monopoly business. We use them for our internet coz we're tried others, but they're not as fast or stable *sob* I hate Telkom.....
But ja, my cell phone is the only way for me to contact the parentals that are about 1000 miles away, and keep in touch with everyone else...
For what it's worth, I make my own ringtones :D

So you're the one who's been driving GK 'round the bend!

Just remember, if Mysty gets a hold of you, you're done for.

And for the record, no cell phone. The way my job is, I would have went through 3 in the last year from abuse and would have had to repair my wall twice.

NightAngel, I am still with you!! I won't own one of those things, I detest them. The only reason I would have one was if I was traveling alot and then it would be one of those cheesy tracfone things. I refuse to get myself into a contract that would charge me $200 if I had to terminate it. I can't see into the future but with my luck I would sign the contract and break my leg and lose my job all in one day!!LOL!!

I, too, remain cell-phone free. I have no interest in being easy to reach.

Spiffy: i know my 20yr old son has one of those bluetooth with a blinking blue light on the front of i that I like to tease him about. I've got an over the ear led reading light (supposedly for reading in bed) that I've put on one ear with his BT on the other and might borrow it for halloween for a borg outfit as it does look quite Locutus.

Ahh it isnt that bad. I like the instant comm ability. Makes it easier to coordinate the crew when we're on the move.

Veering off topic in off topic? Anyone ever read Stephen King's book Cell? Started out interesting then took a right turn into wierdsville even for King.

Yah, Cell read like a Romero movie. Which is pretty cool since the book is dedicated to Romero...

Cell was OK (well, tolerable) right up until the CRUDDY ending, at which point I threw it across the room. Total pile of pants, in my humble opinion.

I like it when people get mobiles. Mobile phones are my business, and every new person who gets a mobile phone pushes my forecast for this year a little bit closer to accuracy !

I liked Cell. I agree the ending wasn't exactly great, but it was fitting to the story. I had to ask myself if he even knows how cell phones work because there is no way at all that something like the pulse could ever happen. I know he had to fictionalize the workings of a cell phone network, but I guess since this is an area I know everything about it seemed kind of weak. And as always, he killed off my favorite character

What I would have liked was an explanation of who created the Pulse and why. The Superflu killed everyone involved in its creation in The Stand, but we at least got to see it from the point of view of its creators to understand what it was and how it got released.
