Until recently, I had a contract cell phone plan... it took some doing (and a lot of charm) but I managed to get the salesperson to hook me up with a phone phone. Not a camera phone, or an MP3 phone or a Bluetooth phone. A phone phone with a one page manual:

Making calls:

1. Dial phone number.
2. Talk.

Receiving calls:

1. When phone makes a noise, open it.
2. Talk.

Using other functions:

1. They're aren't any.

At any rate, for various reasons, a Pay as Go You Go Phone works for me now. I figured getting a phone phone wouldn't be much of a challenge... it's ten cents a minute, 24 hours a day. What could be a more perfect pairing than 10 cents a minute and a phone phone? They were made for each other.

Salesperson: We don't offer any, um, phone phones.
Me: You offer ten cents a minute but you don't offer a phone phone?
Salesperson: Sorry. The good news is, I can set you up with a Bluetooth compatible 1.3 megapixel camera MP3 player phone for $10. You know, it's not like you have to use the other features.
Me: No, no I don't. But is that going to stop me when it's 3:00am and I think it would be supercool to send a random friend a picture of my cat coughing up a furball?

I wish this was an option when I had to change plans a few months ago! (my carrier was no longer supporting analog phones in my area). So for twice what I HAD been paying, I now get waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay more minutes per month than I could ever possibly use (and roll over the unused ones!), and got a very nifty camera phone whose only other feature than making out-going calls that I've mastered IS taking pictures (and accidentally deleting them).
I'm ALMOST williing to pay for "idiot cell-phone lessons". Almost.
Damn -- 10c/min? My favorite spouse had that plan for almost 8 years! Sweet!
