And it was dad, and now he says it all day long
I sat down with him and said "Lachie say mama" He looked at me and said dada. Hubby is very happy because our girls both said mum first.
Such a clever little man. :D

awwwww cute!
My mom taught me to say "Dad" first. Why? Coz that way when I wake up, I'll say the only word I know and he'd have to come put me to sleep again :)
Clever Mom!

My brother's first word was "Mom."
.... of course, it was followed by the rest of the sented, "I want out."
Yes, my brother didn't talk until he could speak full sentences. And his first words were an entreaty for my mother to take down the stacked door gates (stacked becuase he could climb over a single one) so he could be a terror around the rest of the house.

That reminds me of a joke: A woman has a little boy and he grows, walks, etc. just fine, but he never speaks. She worries and the doctor says he is fine but at 5 years old he has never said a word. Then one morning at breakfast he says, "My eggs are cold" and mom is overjoyed, her little boy can talk! When she asks him why he's never spoken before, he says "Everything was fine until now..."

My parents knew I was destined to be a geek when I had a first sentence instead of a first word. It was "milk nice no" apparently (it was the height of summer and my bottle had gone sour overnight). Go me! :D
My DD's first word was 'mama' :) and her second was 'dada'. But to her everything was 'dada' - the cat was 'dada', the bed was 'dada', etc.
