This is a thread I started because of a comment on my "purse" today. See, the thing is, it's NOT a purse...it's a leather briefcase that started out life as a businessman's laptop carrier. This thing is ENORMOUS. However, I carry it that way because I want to have a certain set of things with me at all times or else I get antsy. And looking around at some of the el-enormo bags I see other people carrying, I got curious as to what folks are dragging around with them all day.
Here's mine:
Car keys
Two spiral notebooks: Five-Star, one full-sized, one 3/4 sized.
One wallet
One change purse (about four inches wide, not that big)
One large bottle of chewable vitamins
One bottle of Aleve
One bottle of various other OTC pain medicines (I combine leftovers whenever I empty a bottle, and "shift" my pain med of choice so as to not overuse any particular brand...Aleve, Excedrin, Tylenol, Advil.)
One portable CD player with earbuds
One newspaper (edition chages when I feel like it)
Toothbrush and toothpaste, mouthwash when I can remember to buy it
Cell phone w/ car charger
Two combs, one with a handle, one without
One fuzzy pink scrunchie
One jeweled barrette
Six pens, one with a built-in flashlight
One book of stamps, replaced as needed
Bottle of purfume (doubles as mace, replaced as needed)
Three or four comic books (rotated periodically)
Along with occaisional denizens of the leather bag as I have them.
Paperback book (currently reading an X-Men/Star Trek TNG crossover and feeling quite nerdy for it.)
Workout gloves
Hydrogen peroxide spray (for when I rip out hangnails)
Socks/shoes
various baby things (for when I travel with my cousin and her triplets)
Damn, I'm a packrat.
All right, that's mine. What's your's?

WOW that is a lot of stuff Mysty.
Mine would be:
Car keys
Wallet
Vaio notebook (to stream sports radio at work)
Treo 700p (I can't live without this thing)
Maui Jim Sunglasses (really bad glare on the drive to work)
and that would be it for me.
I have mine sitting patiently right beside me... at all times... even at home
a cellphone,
purse, (the thing that keeps money, not the bag that holds the purse),
4 kinds of lipblam,
keys, (with kiwi playing the bagpipes figuerine)
$3.07 in loose change,
water bottle,
make up bag (including foundation, mascara, conceler, eyebrow pencil, sunglasses and case,
lighter,
benson & hedges deluxe ultra lights,
gold wedding ring from my grandparents,
silver remberance ring from my brother,
bus timetable,
pay cheque,
run for the cure brouchre,
memo pad,

loose american change,
paradex (pain killers),
watch,
second packet of paradex,
free pack of trident gum (did a survery),
home depot pen (red),

orange stick,
empty gum wrappers,
under nail whitener,
miracle lancome travel parfam pack,
lancome juicy tube,
handfull of hair clips,
white mints in wrappers,
pacific pleasure cream perfume,
left over NZ cash....
phew no wonder its so heavy!!!
I stuff the following into mine:
keys - work and home
checkbook
wallet - sometimes it has money in it
pen
cell phone
lactaid pills
latest mystery book
reading glasses
tape measure
female unmentionables
3 pocket knives (I'm not as paranoid as I used to be.....honest)
contact wetting stuff
various cards for the library, Sam's Club, blood donor card and etc.
flattened breakfast bar
calculator
facial sunscreen
various receipts
small tube of petroleum jelly
shades
Explains why my purse is a leather backpack.
Checking through my wallet I found a $5CAD - I'M RICH!! (It's the only money in there until payday.) I also found a pfennig - I'm all set for a pfennig call if I ever go to a bar in Germany.

I'm a pretty light traveller:
Wallet (containing credit/debit cards, drivers liscence, Blue Cross card, etc.)
Car keys
Gum (preferably Dentyne Ice Spearmint)
...and that's it. When I smoked, you could have added DuMauier regulars and a Calgary Flames Bic lighter to the list.

Eh, I got some in my room and a couple in my glove compartment in my car. Covers all situations basically. Besides, keeping one in your wallet is bad. The heat and friction can mess the condom up.

Isn't that what it's designed for?
Just kidding (sorta), but thats why its not included in my wallet contents...

I'm kind of a freak about having my stuff with me always. If I'm not carrying a purse, I fill up my pockets.
The things that are always in my purse:
Wallet (with ID, cash, and keys)
Cellphone
Pack of sugar free gum
Bic pen
Bottle of ibuprofen
MP3 player & earbuds
The things that are in my purse when I'll be gone for a while:
Lighter
Sunglasses
Lip balm
Eyeliner
Mascara
Concealer
Lipstick
Certain feminine necessities
Some kind of paper for notes
Knife (a friend of mine gave it to me because I'm always out at night)
Mirror
And what else I bring (plus all that other crap) when I go to work:
Time card
Suckway name tag
My schedule
Work notes
Extra shirt
Tie, if I'm not wearing it (I'm supposed to)
Safety pins
Water bottle
Deodorant (trust me, way important after working an 8 hr shift)
I guess I'm just one of those preparedness-obsessed kind of people.

In my purse, I have and always will have . . .
1) Cell phone
2) Keychain with car/housekeys
3) Wallet (more for ID purposes because in TX you can get taken to jail if an officer needs to see an ID and you don't have one)
4) Debit card
5) Mace/pepper spray
6) Lip gloss
7) Feminine . . . products
8) Breathmints
That may look like alot, but it's really not.

Right now:
On my pants:
- House keys, front right pocket.
- Nakpins, front left pocket.
- Wallet, rear right pocket
- Checkbook, rear left pocket.
On my vest (gray vest my bf gave me):
- Cell phone, top right big pocket
- Office keycard and sub-group of house keys, bottom right pocket.
- List of stuff to do (paper) for my bf. Top left pocket.
On my Koala bag around my waist:
- Front zipper: 1Gb pen drive, one glass marble (don't ask).
- Middle zipper: Clie PEG-TG50, MemoryStick Wi-Fi card.
- Main zipper: Ipod nano 2Gb white, usb cable for ipod, 2 pairs of headphones, cell phone's handsfree, work ID card, Victorinox Cybertool, Transparent rubber ball with a plastic banana in the middle (don't ask. I call it bananaball), two led lanterns one high power one low power.
- Rear zipper: Clean right now, I used to carry love letters from my BF in there.
Watch on my wrist (i'm timeless without a watch at all times). common timex with EL backlight.
Edit:
Oh yes, thanks for remindign me misanthropical:
Koala main zipper: Two pens, one black one blue.
Edit two:
P.s.: paper, in my jean's (I only wear jeans, I'm a survivalist, I wear clothing I can crawl out of a collapsed building in.) rear pockets... not writting papper, but debit card receipts and store receipts. I don't like to throw trash on the street so I pocket it to throw "latter", I produce INORDINATE ammounts of paper. I by myself can save and recycle abotu two trees worth of paper a day out of my pockets.
