It's my daughters 4th birthday on friday and guess what she's having done on that day...... Getting her immunisations.

I feel so bad but i tried to get it done today but the nurse couldn't fit her in until friday which means i have to pull her out of kindy early to get it done.:(
I think i might save her best present until after her needles so she'll forget about them.

My 6 month old is getting his done too but at least he won't remember it. I hate seeing them cry when they get it done:cry:

Ah, yes, shots. So much fun. I used to cry when I was a lil kid. Then, one day, the nurse gave me a shot, and I acted like it was nothing. My mom so didn't see it coming. Now look at me! I donatd blood every now and then. Three times so far. Would have been four but my math teacher wouldn't let me reschedule taking a quiz to give blood. So I rushed through it, handed it in, and left before she could say anything. 100% on that quiz. Too bad I missed giving blood by five minutes.

On a side note, every time I'm giving blood at school, they ask you if you've gotten a tatoo in the last ten months in the commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Not once do they mention other states. So since I got mine done in New Jersey, does that mean it's still cool to donate?

That sounds like a great idea! Or get her another present.

I hates needles so I don't donate blood and I always seem to neglect going to get a flu shot.

I got flu shots every year in college since I was sharing a bathroom with 25 other girls but I never got them before or since (knock wood, especially since we refer to one guy at my office as the "ebola monkey").

Greenday, I suppose technically you can still give blood but.....on the off chance that something went wrong at the tattoo place do you really want to have that on your conscience?

I have never given blood...I'm afraid. Needles don't bother me much (I just don't look) but I don't know if I could handle giving a whole pint. My blood pressure tends to be on the low end of normal and I have been known to faint for no apparent reason and also to get lightheaded after having 3 or 4 vials drawn for blood tests.

PS I think somebody better be getting an extra slice of birthday cake this weekend! Mean mom! :p

I was just curious as to what the heck they meant by ONLY having PA on there. But I'm not worried about the tattoo place. It is known to be a very hygenic place. I even watch them take the needles out of the packaging and throw them away.

Oh, she doesn't deserve an extra slice of cake! She deserves TWO extra slices.

.

That is rather interesting...do they not trust PA's tattoo parlors?

Where did you get it done, anyway?

I have no problem with needles, shots or giving blood (I've got 3 tattoos and 8 piercings to prove it!) but the one time I donated blood, they buggered it up so bad I was kind of glad I haven't been able to donate in a while, due to all the tattoos and body piercings, and also the fact that I have low iron.

I don't know. I'll have to ask next time they have it at my school.

I got it done over at Body Art World in Asbury. The outlining was the worst part but it wasn't as painful as I figured it would be.

Last time I gave blood, the nurse forgot to untie my arm so I started to lose feeling in it. It was funny.

Well it's all done and she didn't even cry, the only time she flinched a bit was with the tetnus shot.

The baby screamed his lungs out :(

We're going to my mums' for pizza tonight and i got her a very yummy cake :)

I'm so proud of her.

Be sure to make a big deal about her being a big brave girl for not crying. Kids remember things like that, at least I did.

I remember getting mine at that age. I also remember several hours later, "hey, I forgot...I'm supposed to be crying!" So I started crying again!

I remember the health department coming to school and lining everyone up and as we walked thru the line being stuck with needles or worst those pneumatic innoculation guns (caused those round scars on almost everyone's left arm.) I remember lining up every morning after the Pledge and prayer and getting a cod-liver-oil pill. I also had more than a few friends get polio, a few died from meascles, scarlet fever, one friend died from mumps. I think polio was the scaryest thing out there at the time until the Saulk vaccine came along, we got it on a sugar cube. I think it was in second grade that school was closed for almost a month because of a polio breakout. We were kept home and not allowed to play or have contact with anyone outside the family during that time. TB was a bad thing, there was all kinds of virulent things back then that killed kids. Sometimes the good ol days weren't so good.

I remember the first shot I had...

My dad took me in and I was like 4 or 5, maybe.

Anyway, the nurse or doctor (the big meanie who hurt me) sat front left of me. My dad was sitting right next to me. The doctor or nurse pulled out the needle, I took one one look at it and it was fight or flight. I chose flight and my and my dad decided to fight. He won. :(
