It finally happened! My BF 'engaged me' last Sunday (July 23). On the Saturday he asked if I wanted to come over after work and he'd cook me supper since we haven't had a meal alone together in months. Of course I said I would - can't pass up a chance for some quality time, plus he's an excellent cook.
After supper we were just sitting on the couch, talking about whatever, and he started bugging me about the engagement ring again (he's been teasing me for a few weeks already), saying stuff like he hopes he has it paid off by Christmas, do I want a romantc proposal, he hopes I'll say yes when I finally get it or he'll feel really stupid, etc. I never suspected a thing cuz I thought for sure he'd take me on a picnic in 'our' park to propose. Then he gets down on one knee, whips out the ring and asks if I'll marry him!!! Of course I said yes!
Then I gave him shit for being so sneaky and letting me think he hadn't paid it off yet. He told me that it's been paid off since the week of his son's grad (the end of June) - after they took the tux back, they went to pick up my ring, so even his son was in on it - I'm surrounded by sneaky, underhanded men! My BF said he hasn't had a chance to plan anything cuz we're both so busy right now and he got tired of waiting, so figured Sunday would be a good night for it.
Of course I wore it to the warehouse job to show off, but kept it in my pocket while I was working - don't want to damage it! I'll have to buy a strong necklace so I can wear it like that when I can't actually have it on my hand. At least I can wear it at the grocery store, as long as I'm careful! We haven't set a wedding date yet, but that's okay - right now I'm happy enough just having the ring!

Same with me! :)
See...told ya we could start our own thread. :D
So, Zinjadu and CanadaGirl...details, ladies!! When are your big days? Where? What kind of weddings do you want to have?? This is the fun part!!
For mine, we're going to the Bahamas and getting married there. We wanted this to be just for us, so the only family who'll be there is his mom - she lives in Florida and we're flying her down for the day...note that I said day. ;) After that it's just us, the beach, the water, the copious amounts of free food and drink...the only way it could get better is if I find a way to watch NHL games on satellite or something, but it's damn near perfect.

:( It's actually quite complicated. He's in NJ and I'm in western Canada at the moment, so we're thinking up a way for him to get here and make some money (don't tell the government on me... it's minimum 19 months for the Workers Visa/Permit he applied for). Probably can't get married until I'm done college. And I hear getting a citizenship to Canada is really difficult and long process. I don't know how it's going to all work out, really. I don't understand half this government crap. I wish he could just be allowed to come here and work and not have to deal with permits and visas and all that stupid sh*t. Makes life all that more hard for no reason. He tells me it's easier to get a US citizenship, but I honestly don't want to live there and I have to go to school. :( Life sucks. So, wedding is going to be a ways away.

Wow, CanadaGirl, that kinda sucks. I considered moving to Canada myself, so I can vouch for the difficulty. There's some sort of preliminary test on the Immigration Canada website that he could take to see if he's a candidate. Maybe you or he could check out their website and that might answer some questions - it's www.immigration.ca. And I promise not to tell if you sneak him in - I don't blame you. ;)
It is much easier to get US citizenship, but it can still be a pain - there are lots of hoops to be jumped through, of course. You're right about getting through school first; that's more important. Hopefully you two can figure something out so that you can get on to the getting-married part, because that's a lot of fun! :) Hang in there, and keep us posted, okay?
woohoo congrats!!! aww it makes me all warm and fuzzy when members have life go well for them!
have you set a date yet? a great site to help you plan is www.theknot.com
its expensive to buy through them, but they give great advice and ideas that you can source for cheaper.

gahd zooks! dont say that!! I heard Canada was one of the easyiest places to get citizenship to, one of kyles friends married and Australian and they simply refused to giver him a visa so they had to move the entire family back to Canada because their government was alot more approving!
NZ wont give kyle one either so our only choice is to live here...

It's very easy for folks from other Commonwealth countries, kiwi, so you'll be okay. :) Apparently they just don't want bunch of Americans to swarm over the borders and drink their beer or something. :D

Sorry I've been away for so long again - I'm just too busy for my own good!
Thanks for all the good wishes, ppl - makes me feel all warm and fuzzy!
:) Congrats to you, too PuckishOne and CanadaGirl - I didn't realize what I was starting here!
We haven't set a date yet, but we want to go somewhere tropical cuz we'll never be able to afford a wedding and a great vacation sometime in the future. Neither of us has a lot of $$$, so combining the two for one memorable occasion seems best.
His parents and my Mom (Dad passed away 6 1/2 years ago) don't want to fly that far (health reasons), so they'll just help us throw an 'after-wedding' party when we get back.
Of course, that's the plan so far, but plans have a way of changing or being changed!
