Ok, around here we have cicadas. They're ok I guess, I'm pretty neutral when it comes to bugs as long as they stay out of my house.;)
So the husband found a cicada shell in the backyard. They shed their shell/skin, whatever I guess. Well he thought it was pretty neat, and was going to show some friends of ours that just moved to this area.
What he did NOT tell me was that he was going to store it on the kitchen counter.
So, I'm cleaning off the counter while kiddo is watching cartoons and as I move something, in the corner of my eye I see a HUMONGOUS BUG and just about shit myself. Then I realize it's that damn shell.
It's still there.
I don't care if it's just the outer skin and can't move, I'm still not touching it.
If he doesn't move it by tomorrow, I'm getting out the tongs and removing it from my territory.
we just had cicadas a couple years ago
their NOISY!!!!

My husband would be in a lot of trouble for that. He knows that nothing and I mean nothing scares the crap out of me more than bugs.

Bugs are considered food by many people here- you'll see people with little carts full of fried bugs on the streets. I stay far away from them, although we have a few friends who like them. It creeps me right out, although one bug by itself I can manage.

You wouldn't have been happy at my grandmother's farm about 20 years ago. Let's just say that the cicadas were *very* loud, and quite numerous. Literally thousands of them all over the place. At one point, Grandpa gave me a hammer, and told me to squish any that were on the new fence. I'd never seen that many, either before, or since then.
You know it's summer when the cicadas are singing and they've been singing since June. Man they are the ugliest, creepiest, please stay underground bugs that I've ever seen.

I've just noticed my first cicada shedding today. Right after reading this post, I walked out of my house to go to work and I saw one attached to one of the posts on my porch. I hate those stupid things.

When I was a kid we (neighborhood kids) would see who could attain the largest collection of Cicada shells.

You know, I remember all the news about the BIG cicada hatching last year up north.
I just thought that very funny since I live in the south and we have cicada's every year.
You know it's high hot summer when they drown out the noise from the highway.

Yeah, they look like a cross between a sewer roach and a horsefly. Ugly, with a capital UGH!
I don't think we have them in Canada.
If we do, I've never seen them, but I have heard about what a nuisance they are.

We did that too! In fact, one of my cousins was a big fan of bugs, especially cicadas. Even now, 25 years later, we still call them "Mikeys."
