This is the biggest joke. Talk about vote buying.
"Oprah ran a show last week where she showcased several people working at minimum wage rates. Some were single mothers with children. So .. why didn't Oprah ask her what in the hell she was doing with children if she didn't have enough of an education or didn't have the job skills to earn more than the minimum wage? Let's fact it --- and this is a very insensitive truth, but the truth nonetheless --- if you are an adult and you can't earn more than the minimum wage, then you are a loser. Simple as that. It is not your employers responsibility to pay you more than you are worth just because you have squandered your educational opportunities." Neal Boortz
Anyone else agree.

Since there are quotation marks around this, I'm assuming it's a quote from some politician or something...could you edit the post to reflect that info? Otherwise, it's a hugely inflammatory post to make on a board where there are a lot of people working for wages that are in no way reflective of their "educational opportunities." Thanks. :)
thats the BIGGEST LOAD OF ..... i've EVER heard
to keep it civil i'm going to leave it at that, at least for now

Thanks, PraetorianGuard. :)
Neal Boortz is a talk-jock who's often referred to as "a Republican in Libertarian clothing" (per Wikipedia).

Maybe I should go deeper because I don't mean to offend. Being in high school or college and working for minimum wage is one thing. Being 30+ and raising a family is completly wrong. If a minimum wage job is the best you can do, then why are you having kids you can't support. This is just another example of people who think their government and employer should take care of them. No idea of self reliance. Can any point to me were it says in our constitution that it is the job of the government to ensure your employer pays you more then you are worth.

Watch "30 Days" in which they live off of minimum wage. Funny thing is that the minimum wage was originally created to make sure all working people would be able to afford the bare necessities to live. While I agree that if you cant afford kids you shouldnt have them, I dont see anything wrong with the government giving hand-outs to its own people as long as they're happy and willing to give illegal immigrants free health care and legal representation and give billions of dollars to Africa and India. What would you think about me if I gave all my money to my wife's brother to feed his three kids and let my own kids go to bed without any adequate food on a regular basis?

PG, you're making a valid point for debate, but it's a matter of time before one of the mods shuts this thread down. Rapscallion (the board admin) is very adamant that this forum not become a debate society, and for the most part that's to maintain civility when dealing with hot topics like this.
To save yourself a flame war and possibly getting booted, I recommend you try Mr Slugger's site or maybe another board that's structured to moderate this kind of thing. I'm a big fan of political discussion myself, but I do believe we should respect the rules of CS and keep it out of these threads. We're here to vent about our jobs and the people who make them miserable, and while that includes politicians and radio hosts :) , it's best left for another location.

I could air more grievances about "the system" right now on here but I'll just let it go if it's gonna just cause more problems.

Sorry guys, I don't see this thread doing anything except turning into a slanging match, so I'm shutting it down right now.
