View Full Version : Does my resume say "Please don't hire me"?

Last year, my job was sent over seas, so I have been appling to job after job. Yet, no one has called to set up an interview.

I know my resume is well written and easy to read. No outrageous wage demands, nothing is made up to pad it. It's only one page long, so it's not over done.

So, why don't employers call me to set up interviews? :(

I think they get intimidated when they see you bring in the flamethrower.

Other then that, unless the place has a don't call back policy, try calling and bugging them, just asking if they got the resume, etc etc. It makes it look like your eager to work there, and that you want to work there. Some places like that.

Once upon a time, this was a reference for a resume writing service. I was very happy with them.

And then they turned into spammers. They sent out spam using my description of their service, and now I'm very not happy with them. If you've been directed here because of their spam, don't use their service. I don't recommend them anymore.

I'm no expert, but feel free to mail it to me for comment.

Hi there. You might be surprised by what your resume says and doesn't say. I spent rather a while having difficulty getting callbacks myself, until I spent the best $200 I'd ever spent, and hired a professional resume writing service. I sent them my resume, they called me, spoke to me, figured out how to update the resume, and sent it back. A few back and forths with it, and I now have a resume that gets callbacks, plus knowledge of what I did wrong.

I know that $200 is a lot, but the results are well worth it (at least, they were for me).

Before my last job, my resume never had a problem getting call backs. The only thing different in it is that I updated it to include my last job.

I would still be with my last job, if they hadn't of sent it over seas. I enjoyed it for the most part. :(

Well, I was sent a resume today (by e-mail) from a "Sexy Sasha" and the attached resume was titled "bs resume". Her resume contained a picture of her as well.

It went straight into the round filing cabinet after a lot of snickering and trying to figure out if it was real. Even if it is, that is just very unprofessional.

You can e-mail me yours if you'd like. I'm also no expert, but I know what I look for and don't look for.

Wait you're not the call girl agency?;)

I had my mother make mine for me. I made her a list of all my jobs, manager's names and numbers, and description of job titles and duties, and then she worded it all fancy and professional for me.

I was the only person at the factory job fair to show up with a resume!

I think your resume and my resume both have the same things. I too have had horrible luck getting any call backs. I've sent out around 60 resume's and had not one call. I've called places, and still haven't heard anything.

Oh wait....correction, I did hear from one place. Only a whole whopping 3 months after I turned in the resume. Efficient place eh?

Same with mine. I never had any trouble before my last employer. But during the time working there, and now afterwards, I cannot get a job no where. I do the calling up on it, but nothing happened yet. Plus, my unemployment check, hasn't came in yet. I need the money, so I can use it for gas, and half-ass pay my bills.

I have a professionally prepared resume that has always landed me interviews in the past. But when I was out of work earlier this year, I applied for hundreds of jobs and only received three call backs. It wasn't my resume. I finally figured out what it was: online applications.

Often, no human being is looking at these things. The two major employers here in my city use software that scans your resume for keywords. If you don't use those words, your resume will never be flagged and no one from HR will even see it. I pieced this one together by looking at the resumes of my friends who work at these companies. I added a few words to my resume, re-applied, and was called within a week.

So that's one possibility, for what its worth.

It will vary according to company and position you're applying for.

I can't remember most of the keywords for me, but I remember that they were looking for the word Excel in the resume, because spreadsheets were part of the job. And my resume just contained something along the lines of "all Microsoft Office applications".

An HR person would have seen that and known that I knew Excel; software can't extrapolate.
