Hokay, I work at a Wal-Mart where we, like almost every other store have a shoes and shirt required rule for safety and hygenic reasons. Well this one chick who had her daughter w/her just didn't get it, prepare yourselves people her comes a pretty bad SC:
SC: Sucky customer or shoeless chick
G: greeter
CSM: CSM
M: manager
ME: me
G:(sees woman and daughter w/ no shoes) Excuse me ma'am, I'm afraid that we have to ask you to put shoes on.
SC: WHAT???????????????????
G: You must whwre shoes in the store.
SC: WHY???? I want to see a supervisor, you n----er, your peple don't tell my people what to do we tell you what to do.(G signals to CSM)
CSM: What's up?
G:(remarakably composed): This lady is not wearing shoes and refuses to put any on.
CSM: Well, ma'am I'm afraid we require shoes in our store .
SC: You What?? That's outrageous!!! I wanna see a manager!!!!!(CSM pages manager)
M: What's going on?
SC: They're telling me I have to wear shoes in your store!!!
m: Well, that's the truth, you do have to wear shoes.
SC: You are discriminating against people who don't wear shoes!!!! I'm calling the media and my lawyer, and i am GOING INTO THE STORE!!!!!!!!!!
M: Not w/o shoes
ME: I'll get some clearance flip-flops for 'em (they're a buck a pair)
SC: Yeah, by, them you f---g child molestor.
ME:   okay..
M: You can't talk to our associates like that, you do it again and your gone(he didn't know about the racial epithet, neither did the CSM)
SC: YOU wouldn't dare throw me out!
M: You say anything like that again and you bet we will.(he gets paged for a shoplifter and scoots)
I hand the flip-flops to the CSM who gives them to the customer
Well, anyway, they did their shopping and ended up in at my register. as they are leaving they say these lovely parting words: SC: God's gonna kill you you f-g, there better not be no AIDS on these shoes I know all of your kind has AIDS, your mama should have aborted you!!!!!!
ME:<sob>
Well, after that delightful person i just wanted to cry, and the CSM, saw this and took over my register.(fortunatley the next customers were cool and said they'd sign a statement detailing what they heard and that they didn't blame me and thought I provided good service)
While I was recovering, the manager asked what they said to me, i told him and he immediatly banned the SC. She did come in again and was told she was banned and the reason. then this exchange
SC: There wre no other employees it's just that f-g's word against wine and I have kids!!!
M: Wrong, we have a statement signed by customers and security camera footage, if you do not leave right now I'll call the cops.
SC: This store is godless!!!! You all will pay at judgement day!!!!!!
M: Just Leave.
SC: NO
M:<nto walkie> call the cops
Well the cops show up and she is made to leave as she does so, i appear, back from lunch, she hurls a shoe(!) at me it misses and strikes a cop, who is now kinda mad, and says go or your under arrest. Well, SC doesn't go and instead hurls her other shoe(!) at me, and this one too strikes the cop.
End result: The lady and daughter wre arrested and banned and I was given a small raise for providing good customer service throughout the ordeal.
Oh, and you'l never guess what she bought, wait for it wait for it.. SHOES!!!!!
I.....don't even know what to say...
I am so sorry you had to deal with that. I'm even more sorry when I posted on the most recent old board, the "no shirt, no shoes, no service" one, where I ranted about shoeless/shirtless people in my store. Sure, people would get fussy, but no one ever called me anything.
I am really sorry...I'm glad you had a very understanding manager, I am even more happy that your next customers understood and thought highly of you. I'm glad that in the end, she ended up banned.
People like that have no business in public.

Dang... sorry to hear that happened. I don't know what the deal is with people anymore (I can guess that it has alot to do with substance abuse though.) See the way we do it at my store (a Home Depot nonetheless) is to stop serving the customer if they make it personal. The last time a customer got personal with an associate the assistant manager told the gentleman to apologize, when the guy got in his face, I paged our code for a violent customer basically and there came 10 people in orange aprons to kick the guy out :) Who needs police ;)

Poor you, having to go thru all that. *hugs* What a bitch! I'm glad she got banned and arrested, serves her right for being so nasty.
We have a policy on people having to wear shirts and shoes, but I've never had anyone have a go at me over it. I don't even know how I'd react in a situation like that.
What an evil bitch! I don't usually say someone is evil, but she is. At least she got what she had coming to her. Gotta love karma! ;)

Wow -- that person must have some sort of serious mental defect. I'm glad you were able to keep your composure through all of that.
Why do people not understand it is not your God-given right to enter into a store. You can be banned, at our store it is by giving a trespass letter?
I hope this woman gets the book thrown at her :D

Slightly off-topic:
Kusanagi - there's an intro to a song by DC Talk called "What If I Stumble" that says: "The greatest single cause of Atheism in the world today is Christians who acknowledge Jesus with their lips, and walk out the door, and deny Him by their lifestyle. That is what an unbelieving world simply finds unbelievable."
I'm not going to argue Christianity, but I thought it kinda fit the point Kusanagi was trying to make.

Eh, I don't really see her fitting the mold for a personality disorder or being "psychotic" (which typically means schizophrenic, and can also include personality disorders). I'm not quite sure how to explain her...an ass-twinkie perhaps?
As a psych major in school, I just don't see a personality disorder or anything. Just my 2 cents!
I do agree, however, that this woman is loco.

And what kind of moron don't wear shoes in a store???? EWW!!
Given the choice, I wouldn't. But I realise there are places out there that require shoes, and I would always have an extra pair with me, in case of such a store. You'll find, particularly in the fur-dom, that barefooting (or 'barepawing', as it is called in the fur-dom) is fairly common. Of course, I would do it just to be different, not because I used to be a furry...
Enjis
07-09-2006, 03:46 AM
Juwl, you are (or were) a furry? Cool, I sometimes go to furry cons as an artist! And a lot of the fursuiters wear some sort of 'shoes' or foot coverings...even if it only fur or costume bits. And walking around a nice hotel is different from walking around a more 'public' place, such as a store.
That is seriously messed up. I'm glad the shoes hit the police only because it stated your case even more so.
Good for you for maintaining your composure and professionalism through such an ordeal.

I don't understand why some people go barefoot outside. Personally, I feel more comfortable wearing something on my feet (like flip flops).:)
I understand that some people prefer the natural look, and that includes going barefoot. But I also know that most of those people have the sense to wear shoes in parking lots and in stores.
It's totally gross and unhygenic to go in a store shirtless and/or shoeless. I also can't understand why people would want to step on hot tar, broken glass, and other garbage (and their children stepping on it as well!!).

From the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, 4th ed, text revision (my emphasis in red):
Diagnostic criteria for 301.7 Antisocial Personality Disorder
A. There is a pervasive pattern of disregard for and violation of the rights of others occurring since age 15 years, as indicated by three (or more) of the following:
(1) failure to conform to social norms with respect to lawful behaviors as indicated by repeatedly performing acts that are grounds for arrest
(2) deceitfulness, as indicated by repeated lying, use of aliases, or conning others for personal profit or pleasure
(3) impulsivity or failure to plan ahead
(4) irritability and aggressiveness, as indicated by repeated physical fights or assaults
(5) reckless disregard for safety of self or others
(6) consistent irresponsibility, as indicated by repeated failure to sustain consistent work behavior or honor financial obligations
(7) lack of remorse, as indicated by being indifferent to or rationalizing having hurt, mistreated, or stolen from another
B. The individual is at least age 18 years.
C. There is evidence of Conduct Disorder with onset before age 15 years.
D. The occurrence of antisocial behavior is not exclusively during the course of Schizophrenia or a Manic Episode.
Can't say one way or the other about (C), and don't know about "repeatedly" but I suspect she qualifies in spades!

This is one thing I've never understood: Hokay, I work at a Wal-Mart where we, like almost every other store have a shoes and shirt required rule for safety and hygenic reasons. In what way is not wearing a shirt in a Wal-Mart a safety or hygenic issue? I don't object to stores requiring that their patrons be dressed, but it seems more like an excuse to hit those who complain about the policy than a real reason.

I don't object to stores requiring that their patrons be dressed, but it seems more like an excuse to hit those who complain about the policy than a real reason.
The real reason is simple, they don't want customers to be "disgusted" by shirtless folks in the store and not come back. The shoe thing is a hygienic thing as well as safety.
Living in Florida (near beaches) for a very long time, the shirt thing is not really "enforced" here

Text book diagnosis is not a good thing to attempt. The lady wasn't an antisocial, she was simply a complete idiotic jack*ss. By your attempt at diagnosis, I could say most drivers where I live suffer from antisocial disorder.
Majority of CS are not suffering from an mental disorder, they're suffering from a inflated ego and snobbish attitude. To call it anything else would only excuse the behavior. I don't know about y'all, but I don't think CS should have an excuse to behave the way they do. :)

On behalf of all barefooted people, I'd reiterate that those people were just arrrogant morons, and most of us who reject shoes are much nicer than them.
Sometimes I wish I believed in the "traditional" form of heaven, with Pearly Gates and St Peter as doorman, just for the satisfaction of knowing that when these types get to the Gates, he's going to look them up in the Big Book of Earthly Deeds, and do the heavenly equivalent of spitting coffee all over his monitor, shortly before directing them sharply to the Down Elevator....

The bare feet is probably both a health dept requirement (sanitary reasons) or a way to keep SC's from suing for foot burns on hot tar (um it is over 90 and you are barefoot?), stubbing toes on pallets or equipment in the store, cuts thanks to broken bottles (happens inside and outside the store) and of course stepping in gum. I wonder if no shirts is a hygenic thing (a barrier for lots of sweat?) too (the gym I used to work out in had a T-shirt requirement for women).

Text book diagnosis is not a good thing to attempt.
That is an excellent point, I agree for the most part. I was mainly being hyperbolic in my initial post (very doubtful she is psychotic). However, I think her behavior was so over-the-top that she goes beyond just being a jerk. Most jerks would stop at mouthing off, or at least they wouldn't get all the way to throwing things that hit cops.
And, by the way, I don't think a personality disorder diagnosis excuses ANYTHING. Alcoholics still have legal trouble if they are caught driving drunk, and deservedly so. Anti-social, borderline, conduct disorder, explosive disorder, whatever, a person is still responsible for their actions.

One thing it doesn't mention, however (because it has to be objective) is that antisocial P.D. is almost ALWAYS attributed to males. Look up Histrionic personality disorder. There's research being done seeing if Histrionic P.D. (almost ALWAYS in females) is the female version of APD. Conduct disorder is generally in childhood/adolescence. APD is also generally very violent (killing/torturing pets, small animals, children, severely beating up on people for no reason - not just throwing a shoe- generally showing no remorse). They also tend to be pathalogical liars. Histrionic PD generally isn't violent as much as it's extravagent with grandiose tendencies. Histrionic is generally characterized by dramatic, sensational, and sexually provocative behavior, they need to be the center of attention, they're often impulsive, and have shallow thoughts and emotions. That being said, histrionic PD may be a possibility, but...who knows?
It's incredibly difficult to diagnose particular PD's because they're generally comorbid (if you have one cluster A PD, you likely have another cluster A PD). I'm not going to argue this because I'm simply an undergrad psych student, but I think there's a lot of sensationalization that goes along with psychopathology because it's interesting and intriguing. I just want to insure that people aren't getting stereotyped or called "psychopaths" just because they're odd in some way, shape or form.
I got an A in Abnormal Psych by the way... lol

Being the smartass I am, I probably would have asked the "woman" (I'm trying to be nice :) ) if she knew of a place that got sheets *really* white, and if the place also did ironing. Of course that subtle Klan reference would have probably gone over her head... If that was it, I probably would have told her to head back in the hills where that sort of crap is tolerated.
People like her just piss me off. I still can't believe that there are still people like that now. You'd think people would be a little more tolerant of each other by now...

My feet aren't there yet, but I know there are runners in races, like, a 90K, or whatever, who run the entire thing barefoot.
