Kind of a long story, but here goes. My SO, Jim, and I have been together for eight years and during that whole time he has only worked seasonal jobs. Which has made for a very tight financial situation in the winter. He worked for the city parks department for six months and collected unemployment for about four and a half months..with one and a half months of no other income but mine because the unemployment has waiting periods and other weird rules. So anyways during that time he has applied at various schools and other city openings for full time. He wanted a full time benefited job with the city, county or school because he then would not have to worry about being laid off because of the economy.

Now I understood this, although it was frustrating in the winter time, especially around Christmas and we were always broke. Well this summer he had two interviews, one at a Jr. High for night custodian, which is also the same school that his auntie works at. He did not get the job but the principal said that he was definitely her second choice and to keep looking on the website as another custodian was planning to retire. The other interview was at one of the elementary schools..they called and said that they went with someone else, Jim was disappointed but said he would just continue to apply. Well the principal called one morning and told me that the other guy did not work out and asked if Jim was still interested in the job. I said he sure was and I went to his current job and gave him the message to call her.

Well after all the security, background, medical checks he was finally HIRED!!! Gosh I am so relieved!! Full time, completely paid for benefits which include medical, dental and life insurance!! Paid holidays, paid personal leave and paid sick leave. They match six percent retirement benefits. Gosh, we can finally celebrate Christmas, pay off all our bills and credit cards, and eventually buy a house. I am a student at BHSU and I can finally cut back a little on my hours and take more classes to obtain my degree!! Thank Goodness, I have only been taking two classes a semester and at the rate that I am going I will be 50 before I graduate!! Now I can step up the process. Did I say I was excited??LOL I am just real happy for us and he already loves the job. I just had to share with everyone.

Yayyyyy!!!!!

Isn't life great sometimes? I've had times being out of work: it sucked. I took myself out to a nice dinner after I got a job that paid decent AND paid one old bill off.

Feels great. I can feel the happiness all the way over here :)

Congrats!
I know from personal experience what your situation was like. It sucks and blows.

Give SO a pat on the back for me. Tell him to keep up the good work.

Also, give him a little "extra" sumthin-sumthin for his perseverance.

I'm really pleased for you both. Congrats to Jim for his perseverance, and best of luck to you with your studies.
