My job has had overtime, lots of it, in another department (one that is merging with mine and the other department sucks so life is hell, but that is a whole other story...), so much, in fact, that they decided to make overtime mandatory. Monday through Thursday this week we have to fit in 2 hours of overtime, in addition to our 8 hour shift, sometime between 6am and 6pm.

How does this make me a glutton for punishment? I'm going to bed right now at 10:30 in the evening (super early for me) so that I can be up at 4:30am to work a full 12 hour shift. My third this week, which will be followed by a fourth on Thursday. I'll be rolling in the dough come payday, but man am I fried. I hope they don't decide to put any overtime on Friday. I need at least one short day this week. *passes out*

My last job supplied overtime whenever the hell you'd take it. Based on seniority amongst all three line employees, mind you.

I got up at 5:30 am daily to start a job which began at either 8 or 7:30, depending.

I also made a heck of a lot of cash.

Personally - I don't see what's so bad about this arrangement, aside from you being tired.

Said job ruined both my shoulders - I'm 22 and my rotator cuffs are something I cuss and grimace about.

Opportunism makes you a glutton for punishment. You're taking the extra pay in exchange for your health, wealth, and welfare maybe getting beat up a little.

Need more money, right?

Sling Chep pallets, make and bag 30 pounds of fish and water over and over, go on a blistering hot roof because you have to, collapse at work....the things go on and on...but I think you've an easy and profitable thing here.

You aren't barely walking when you get home, ready to jump into alcoholism, friendless, exhausted to the point of suicide, and I'll wager you make more than what everyone doing *this* crap does.

So - relax. It's only a couple hours. We waste that much on movies, cleaning the house when tired, or driving that much farther before trading places behind the wheel.

You can handle it, and it seems, will be compensated.

Now use the proceeds for more than laundry detergent and napkins. Go invest, or hit a carnival, see a movie, etc. You earned it.

I hear ya on that. When I first started at my first factory job. I had to work 11 hours a day for Monday - Friday. Had to go in on Saturday, for 8 hours. Done that for a month. My first check, was the best that I ever received. The woman at the bank, started to flirt with me, even more after that.

Yuck. You sound like you have my husband's job. He puts in about eleven hours a day during the week and one eight-hour day on the weekend.

His overtime pay alone is almost twice what I make in a week. But I might as well work, because its not like anyone's waiting for me at home. :(

Got any big plans for those overtime paychecks? That might give you something to look forward to and keep you going.

I suppose I am a glutton for punishment as well.

I've been going in two or three hours early 3 days a week during the week on 2nd shift to avoid doing it on the weekend. Of course it is mandatory to do overtime on the weekend as well.

Rawr.

The money isn't even worth it. Not when you take in the amount of stress my job causes me, and that the time off that I have every afternoon and weekend I REALLY need as much as I can get so that I don't start killing everyone.
