I'm writing my Teacher Work Sample and Word has gone bonkers. Take a look.

I'm mainly referring to the paragraph about Classroom Factors, as you can see. And the little << >> are what I get when I type quotation marks.
It was mildly annoying at first, but when the << >> showed up I became really concerned.
What did I do and how can I fix it?
:help: Please!

Well, the red is either spell check or grammar check. Right click on the word, and see what it says (it will tell you the problem and usually make suggestions for how to correct it).
For the > > symbol, I can't recall what causes that. Try highlighting it, and setting the font to something else (usually Courier is a good choice for this). If it becomes a " mark, then the other font is likely corrupted and needs to be reinstalled.
In fact, that's what this looks like to me: Like word has become corrupted in some way, and might need to be reinstalled.

Red means spell check is on, green means grammar check is on. You can stop both of these by going into Tools, Options, Spelling and Grammar and unchecking the boxes that say check ** as you type.
As for the >> things, it's probably an auto correct that has been set up.
You can undo it by going into Tools, Auto Correct Options, then look under all the auto correct options to see if yours is there. If not, go into the auto correct tap and in the replace box type in the characters that are happening with whatever needs to replace it.

You regional settings are wrong.
Check the Regional Options in the Control Panel, as well as "Tools, Language, Set Language" within Word itself.

Use OpenOffice! I use it all the time and love it.
Or you could just do what the others suggested. :)

Thanks for the suggestion, but take a look at the words that are highlighted. They're all right.
Thanks, everybody, for your help. I have to go to work/school now, but I'll be back in a few hours and I'll try then.

That's what I didn't make clear in my original: Once I realized that the words are spelled right, it's either a corrupted installation of Word, or it's some regional settings (I have to admit that others are probably right about regional settings being wrong).
Check out the regional settings. If that's not it, I'd bet on the installation having become corrupted, and do an uninstall/reinstall.
