That should be a new warning sign at my parent's front door. "Warning: fur flies daily!"
For the longest time, we only had 3 pets (remember, I live in a no pets allowed apartment so Baby has to stay with my parents, and Fat Cat is my brother's cat). Fat Cat, Baby, and Bear the dog.
My grandma decided a few months ago that she was getting too old to care for her 8 year old fat orange tabby, Fanta. He is actually fatter than Fat Cat. I swear he weighs over 20 lbs. Obviously too much for a woman who is almost 90 to handle. We tried to talk her out of it because Fanta was all she had to keep her company during the day and she spoiled him rotten.
So we took in Fanta, hoping it would just be temporary and that Gramma would want him back. So far, that's a no.
Obviously, Baby is the baby of our pets. She's 6. She met Fanta and instantly hated him. Now, call me weird, but I've never heard of opposite gender cats fighting with each other.
For the first month, they just hissed back and forth but never lunged at each other. Fanta is too fat and lazy to really do much more than lay down anyway.
Fanta instantly got along with Fat Cat and Bear. Fat Cat is fixed and Bear is a very friendly dog who loves all other animals. I've never seen Bear dislike anyone. Baby is NOT fixed (I know, I'm a shame to Bob Barker.)
As time has gone on, Baby has started to actually ATTACK Fanta. They cannot be in the same room unsupervised. Last Friday while I was napping, I heard her hiss at him and lunge at him and dig her claws into his head. She had him in a kitty headlock!
It's only gotten worse. I came home the other morning from work and Mom said that Baby was on time out in the garage because she had attacked Fanta and he started bleeding.
So they all can't be in the same room. Fanta, Fat Cat and Bear can, but not Baby. Baby can be inside ONLY if Fanta isn't, or unless someone is watching all 3 of them (which is hard because baby brother has school and Mom and Dad both have to go to work at 8 and 8:30).
I still am in awe that a male and female cat hate each other. I hate violence when it involves animals.....I don't want Baby to hurt Fanta. He's so old and mellow....
Help!
