I caught the last few minutes of the Eagles' game today while waiting for the switch to the Giants game.

Can anybody tell me what the Eagles were dressed up to be? Did Halloween come early?

They're throwback uniforms, and according to Mike Ditka, it has something to do with back in the 20's or so, and were called the Yellowjackets. They were supremely ugly though--baby blue and lemon yellow is not a good color combination.

The Steelers have also worn throwback uniforms this year. So have the Redskins.

Back when the Packers had their blue and gold throwbacks, I didn't think they were that great either.

There are some that should be thrown back... way back. The things the iggles were wearing is one of them.

I turned on the game and immediately thought I was watching a NCAA game. Stupid Eagles.

Dallas usually wears a throwback on the Thanksgiving Day game.

Personally, it's always a fun change of pace...

Well, I think it is anyway.

It can be a fun change of pace, but these uniforms kind of hurt my eyes. :p

The NFL is obviously trying to cash in on the throwback jersey craze that is big in other sports like basketball and hockey, but the problem is that most of the NFL uniforms of the past are ugly as hell. There's a reason the Eagles haven't worn those jerseys in decades.

The Steelers jerseys weren't bad (they were basically their usual ones with gold numbers) but the reverse color scheme helmets were horrendous. The Redskins' ones from the 70s weren't too bad, even if my wife said they looked like bananas running around in yellow pants.

The only throwbacks that were any good were the Chargers' powder blue ones that ended up being re-adopted as the regular uniforms.

If memory serves correctly, the Giants' helmet logos are throwbacks... the dispensed with the current logo and spelled out "New York." Then they brought the current logo back. I like it.

But Philadephia's uniforms on Sunday were hideous.... and according to most of the highlight shows, the laughingstock of the league for the day.

Hell, the Jets current jersey is their really old Jersey. Not too long ago, they were totally green. Helmets were totally Green too except for the word Jets. Looks pretty darn good to me.

The uniforms in question are not just throwbacks. They are basically the uniforms from the time the team was incepted, i.e., inaugural uniforms (update for today's safety and rules issues, of course).

I am looking forward to two inaugural uniforms in particular myself.

1. The Raiders. It will confuse many Steelers fans, as the original Raiders colors were not Black and Silver, but black and gold.

2. The Cardinals. Despite what you may think, the oldest team in the league is neither Chicago nor Green Bay, but actually the Arizona Cardinals, who have been continuously run as one organization since their inception as the Morgan Athletic Club in (I believe) 1898. Can't wait to see what THOSE uniforms look like!

Also will be amused to see how, if at all, newer teams like the Texans, Ravens, Panthers, and Jaguars will deal with this particular issue this season. "Wow, check out the uniforms on those guys. Why, it makes it feel like 1996 all over again!"

Yeah well if they're the oldest then they should be able to do well, but they don't. I don't think they've had a winning season since moving to the desert.

Not entirely true. They went 9-7 in 1998, beating the Cowboys but losing to the Vikings in the playoffs.

As for them doing well, well, it all starts with ownership, and they have been owned by the ridiculous Bidwill family for decades. They stay it all starts at the top, and this case, that is where the mediocrity starts to be certain!

Obviously those ugly uniforms didn't affect the Eagles' offense. They beat the crap outta my Lions.

If I am not mistaken, so far every team that has worn the inaugural season uniforms or some kind of throwback like it has won.

Let's see...
Washington beat New York wearing their throwbacks this week.
Also this week, Philadelphia beat Detroit wearing their throwbacks.
Last week Pittsburgh beat Buffalo wearing theirs.
Opening week San Francisco beat Arizona in theirs.

Throwback uniforms are 4-0 so far this year!

Warning to opposing teams: here are the teams that will be wearing throwbacks against you.

Pittsburgh on November 5th vs. Baltimore.
Minnesota this Sunday vs. Green Bay.
New York Jets on October 14th vs. Philadelphia.
Dallas on Thanksgiving vs. the Jets.

There may be more planned, but those were the only ones I could find.

Brian Billick, Mike McCarthy, Andy Reid, and Eric Mangini, you have all been warned. Good luck!

that call against Heap was wrong though I will give you that

That call was wrong and we only lost by a touchdown when we had 6 turnovers. What does that say about the bengals :p
And we'll see who wins in our rematch!
I feel sorry for people with Cinci def as fantasy football
Offense is decent, even good, but the defense leaves a lot to be desired, allowing that many points to the browns

If there is a Colts/Ravens game this year, then it would very confusing if they both wore throwbacks. It would look more like a Baltimore (Indy Colts) vs Cleveland (Baltimore Ravens) game.

:-p

Actually, no, it wouldn't. It COULDN'T.

For two reasons.

1. The Colts uniforms are virtually the same as they've always been, and I don't think their uni's ever had any Baltimore reference on them.

2. The Ravens had to give up every part of their history as the Cleveland Browns when they moved to Baltimore, and the current Cleveland Browns retain that history and those uniforms, period. The only throwbacks the Ravens could possibly use would be their original ridiculously ugly Fred Flintstone-esque uniforms that they had when they first started in Baltimore.

Yeah, according to the NFL, the Ravens started as a brand new team that just happened to have the entire roster Cleveland had the year before. The current Browns are for historical purposes the original Cleveland team after a 4 or so year vacation

The situation provided lots of moments for hilarity, like the famous "team photos" for the Browns that is a blank piece of paper, or how the one morning radio show had a forlorn Steelers fan singing "Send in the Browns" (to the tune of "Send in the Clowns") over the loss of his biggest rival.
