View Full Version : My spam has changed

Anyone ever notice how spam emails change consistency?

For long enough, I had emails proclaiming the genital wonders their tablets could provide. After a while, this changed into free verse or haiku just to get through filters.

I started getting diploma offers - did I want a bachelor's degree? No - I'm already good at being a bachelor. Master's degree? Wouldn't he want it back?

Financial services were all the rage for a while - we'll lend you money when nobody else will. Sure...

Of late, it's been penny stocks in an attempt to alter the stock market in the spammer's favour.

Last night, I started getting spam emails with the tag [SPAM] in subject line. Is this a cunning way through spam filters?

I'm starting to miss the adverts for the tablets of miraculous results.

I am regularly informed that I can do amazing things (which I won't give details of here) to "my woman". I wasn't even aware I had a woman!

Also, I keep getting sent bizarre stories that make no sense. I rather enjoy them, in a way.

Yes, I get ones about larger and more enduring penii and watches, I liked the one starting with "Genuine Swiss Watch copies" :p . The one I still treasure was the one starting "Attract men with bigger breasts" , as a hetero male I really don't try to attract men and I think that the ones with bigger breasts would be a bit icky  . It's about ten years ago but it still make me laugh.

Ive been getting the [SPAM] ones for awhile.
I mostly get drug offers, and things like that.
Sometimes male enlargement things too.

I did get one that was fairly nasty once.
It was an offer, for porn, but it was basicly pedophila and gay porn rolled into one.

I've been getting quite a few for auto warranties and home mortgages. Uh, why, exactly would I buy an "extended warranty" for my 100,000-mile, 6-year-old car? About 99.9% of the things that are going to go wrong with a thoroughly-used car *aren't* going to be covered by a warranty anyway, so why would I waste my cash on it?

Also, the last time I checked, it wasn't a good idea to get a home mortgage through someone in a third-world country. I have a feeling that the payments I'd be making would be about twice their annual GDP :p

My filter gets most but the ones that always seem to get through and have been big for weeks are those that look like returned mail. I assumed someone was using my address to send spam from but I've heard it's deliberately concocted to get people to read it.

Ditto. I stopped trying to figure that one out awhile ago. Now it's drugs and penny stocks. A few years ago I was getting the incest/barnyard porn messages...some of those apparently had images :puke: but I generally view messages with images blocked by default.

You would be correct on that one. The From: address is spoofed so the original spammer does not get their box flooded with return failures when the mail hits a box that either doesn't exist or is full.

Most times spam is a shot in the dark. The programs auto generate thousands of addresses and it really has no clue whats real and whats not. Another good way to see if you might be getting spammed for a reason is to enter your email address on a google search. If you find it, that'd be why you're getting spammed. Bots will look at these search engines for valid email addresses and use them.

Sorry, this is so totally off topic...

If you're me and somewhat tired when you read this, you think, "why the hell would you SPAM anyway??" Then after you've been awake for a little bit, you revisit the thread and go.. "man, I suck!"

Back on topic, I really don't get SPAM, so I haven't noticed any change in it.

I have had some from "bored housewives" wanting sex. How I can enlarge my penis and make my woman scream in bed. How to grow hair. Pills to enlarge my penis. Women wanting to show me all their talents and all of their body.

My email has my first name in it and last time I checked "Diana" was not listed in names for males.

I get spam for pills to help me lose hundreds of pounds. Uhh?? Funny how my doctor has told me to stop worrying about my weight that it's fine, but my spam seems to think I'm a huge Attila the Hun type person.

I get spam to help me pay my house payments, lower my interest, refinance, etc. I rent, why would I need that type of help?

I get spam to lower my car payments, my interest on my car payments, extended warranty, etc. I doubt my car payments could get any lower, my interest rate is great and I have a warranty through the dealership.

I get spam for pills to help me be more fertile. Uhh, I have three children and have no desire to have anymore, thanks.

I get spam to help me get a date or attract the opposite sex. I have been happily married for some times now and have no desire to be with anyone other than my husband. I still get attention from the opposite sex.

My favorite is the two I have in my email right now. One tells me I won the lottery in another country and another is from someone claiming I'm the heir to a man who died very wealthy, but without a will. If I'm his heir, why is the email address to "Sir/Ma'am" ?

*Sean Connery accent*

But how well does it work, man? Will it really mighty my penis?!

For some reason, most of my spam starts out by saying that it's sexually explict. Thanks for helping me out... I really loved the offers that I would get when I was still in high school, offering me low-interest morgages and university diplomas. Naturally, I was still living with mom and dad, and trying to get my high school diploma.

Anyone getting important account notices from the Fifth Third Bank? I've received several of these.

Almost all spam mail goes into my Bulk Folder automatically. Once every few days I hit the Empty button- I have no idea what's in there.

Usually when a bit of spam actually makes it to my Inbox it's the Nigerian Scam for which I prompty hit the Report Spam button and it disappears.

Was the sender named "Kinky Kelly" by any chance? :p

One of my email addresses I don't even check anymore. In fact I have it set to junk/bounce all email except from a very small list of people. One day I tried turning that feature off as an experiment....within minutes it had about 100 spam messages. All offering to refinance my mortgage while making my penis/boobs/whatever bigger, and I'd get a free degree to boot! Of course, before doing that I had to confirm accounts at banks I've never even heard of.

Sadly, no, and not even clever. It's just your basic "we-need-your-account-information-verified-clicky-here-pretty-please" sort of thing. I know, I was bummed myself.

Well, I'll forward the next one I get along to you so you, too, may join Our Exclusive Little Club. Amazing how I never got this type of spam until I became a homeowner...so, truly, I don't think it has much to do with the money you have - just the money they think you have. :p

And if I get another one from Fifth Third, I'm gonna need a third fifth. :drink:
