So, I got this random IM from a guy on Yahell.

I use the same username there as here, so when he said, "You know a little about computers, right?" it was funny.

So, I said, yeah, and then he said he had a problem with Linux. For most techies, that's like saying

"Hey, do you know anything about cars?"

"Yeah"

"Well, I have this question about my motorcycle."

He uses Linux, but the new version doesn't support dial up modem drivers.

Blah blah blah, then I asked him why he was still using dial up.

He says, because it's much more secure, and he can do soooo much more with dialup than DSL. For example, he said, I can find out exactly where your computer is located with my dial up. Can you do that?

I said with the right software I could, then blocked him.

Gah.

Hey, you know anything about wireless routers? (Just kidding, my dad knows.) Last night my internet just decided to quit...apparently the router died (we have 3 computers on our little network). My dad managed to get his laptop back online but not the other laptop, so I am having to use his computer. Which is not a bad thing, because he has a nice new Dell notebook and I really like the tappety tap of the keyboard :) Whenever he gets everything back up he's going to redo the other laptop for me. Yay. :D

Well, at least he was decent enough to let you know he had excellent stalking potential.

I use the same name for EVERYTHING. MystyGlyttyr, mysty_glyttyr, etc. So I'm constantly getting "fan" IMs from utter creepazoids who seem to think that telling me I'm a "kewl person" and my politely thanking them suddenly means "HAY LEZ CYBER".

Don't get me wrong. I'm both amused and honored to have "fans" (like here!). But some folks need to learn how to properly escalate. I think there's at least like, 11 steps between "I think you're so cool" and "SUPAH CYBAH GRLZ". If you get there at ALL, which someone with a name like "GiantPeenie6969" will most likely never do...

It's sad that I can do that IM-talk off the top of my head now, but they always seem to use that, too...

The main reason I no longer use Yahoo messenger, or sign myself on as invisible and chat with friends that way. Then strange men trolling around for local sex, the ones who find me on the "Yahoo directory", they can't see me and don't bug me.
