Got a big one here, happened my second or third week of working at Lowe's.

I had never worked the customer service desk before, and for a time I didn't work it after. The night prior, I'd gotten maybe an hour sleep. Literally I had worked until after midnight, maybe three in the morning (getting a SPECIAL truck loaded and ready to go) and then had to come in at seven. Since I lived an hour round trip away, well you can do the math.

So here I am, standing at customer service, about to pass out from lack of sleep; only to discover that I've made an arse of myself.

This woman comes up with tattoos. Now don't get me wrong, I love body art. Hers though was a series of stars on her elbows. Strange, yes. Uncommon yes. Not something you'd expect someone to get tattoo'd on them? Yes.

In my sleep deprived state, I mumbled something to the effect of "Stars? Must have run out of ideas." The problem was, in my mind this was being said in my head. I was WRONG.

Long story short, I ended up getting written up for it. Later the write up was expunged since the manager who had kept me working the night before had violated some kind of company policy. Even so, that's a big oops on my part. I really should have been fired for it.

The other day, I saw a woman with the Southern Cross tattooed around her left elbow (the star pattern in our national flag). From a distance, it looked like her elbow was dirty

Not to mention OHS&W regulations.

Aren't we supposed to have a minimum of 8 hours between shifts?
That was one of the regulations at one company I worked at (I'm in canada, btw).

Sounds like your company understood that your lack of sleep was to blame for your comment. I'm glad your write up was taken off your record.

Yeah, I tend to screw up and get sluggish when I'm tired. Ironically, I'm actually functioning WORSE doing 2nd shift than I was doing 3rd at my last job. This has happened quite a bit and is pretty embarassing...

Me: "Okay, well, is there anything else I can do for you tonight?"
Cust: "No, I think we tackled that pretty well! Thank you!"
Me: "Okay, ma'am...err, I, UH, I MEAN SIR..."
Cust: "..."
