I first grew my current goatee in September of 1998 when I was running from Hurricane Georges during my US travels. I have had the goatee since then with only three breaks for a total of four weeks. That's right, I have been cleanshaven for a total of four weeks in nine YEARS.

And tomorrow I am shaving it off...wait, no, that's not right. I am HAVING it shaved off. See, my haircutter actually trims my beard, and since she has been doing this for a while, when my lousy beard trimmer went to shit, I didn't bother replacing it. Anyway, tomorrow when I get my hair cut, I am doing two things out of character for me: I am getting my hair cut even shorter than usual, and I am having her shave my goatee completely off.

You might ask why. Well, it's not because I want a change. I actually like the goatee. I am doing it for a costume.

Yes, I said I am doing it for a costume.

See, Key West's famous Fantasy Fest is upon us, and I never do Fantasy Fest without doing many costumes, though I doubt I will ever top last year's personal record of 10 costumes in 8 days.

And this year, I am doing a costume I have been pondering for quite some time. Next Wednesday, I am going to be none other than Dr. Hannibal Lecter from The Silence of the Lambs. To that end, I have the mask, I have a straightjacket, I am getting some orange scrubs, and I have a friend loaning me a large handtruck. And two of my hot female friends in red dresses, D-Rod and Flakey, are going to be wheeling me around from bar to bar. The original idea was to have a female friend dress up as Clarise Starling and have a large male friend wear a white orderly outfit and wheel me around, but you know, I don't have a problem with having two hot chicks in red dresses wheel me around either. Anyway, anyone who has seen the movie knows that Dr. Lecter does not sport a goatee. No, I am not going to end up looking a thing like Anthony Hopkins, but I AM going to be cleanshaven, I am going to have my hair shorter than normal, and I am going to have said hair slicked back.

Amusingly, the vast majority of people who know me down here have never seen me cleanshaven, including RW, who has already expressed her disapproval of this move.

Should be entertaining, to say the least. :D

IMO - that's too much clothing for Fantasy Fest.

Ohhhh not bad! I'm actually a little envious. Though I was impressed with our 12 outfit/costumes in 4 days out at con. Now, wanna figure out how I can do my hair for my costume? I'm so not dying it brown...

I LOVE Hannibal Lecter! And Anthony Hopkins is the ONLY option for playing that character!

Ah, it's just hair...it'll grow back :D

Wig? Temporary dye? (Though, depending on your hair, temporary dye isn't always so temporary...) What's the costume, anyway?

It's just one day, one costume. Ask me about the Perverted Zorro costume one day.

Now, wanna figure out how I can do my hair for my costume?

Well, I would need to know what the costume IS, and what your hair is like NORMALLY.....

I LOVE Hannibal Lecter! And Anthony Hopkins is the ONLY option for playing that character!

Gee, thanks--guess I can't dress up as him now then!

Ah, it's just hair...it'll grow back.

True, but in my case it takes a whopping five days to grow back anything resembling a decent goatee. And it's not so much the growing back as the lack of it at all that is a little odd. My chin feels.....cooler. As in chilly, not as in hey, I'm cool. (Though of course I am.)

So.... what about the Perverted Zorro costume?

I think my best costume ever was the one I wore for my wedding. I was Rachael from Bladerunner. My mom did an amazing job putting my hair up the same way as her wig for most of the movie, with rolled up rats on the sides and the bangs in front (she clipped/rolled everyting with no cutting required, even though my hair is long and straight and I do not have bangs) and I had found the perfect dress in a second-hand shop.

So.... what about the Perverted Zorro costume?

Damn. Guess I opened myself up for THAT one!

Okay. Well, most of my costumes for Fantasy Fest are the type that would not fall under the "risque" category that so many Fantasy Fest costumes DO fall under.

The Perverted Zorro costume is another story entirely, and marked my only major foray into that category.

In total, the costume is: black Zorro hat, black Zorro mask, black cape, black boots... and a black thong. The only time I have ever even WORN a thong was for this costume. It took some serious....adjustment.

That's still too much clothing for Fantasy Fest. :D

Get rid of the thong and you'll fit in.

My parents wanted to go to Fantasy Fest one year thinking it would be fun. They thought it was like a tame version of Mardi Gras. When I explained it to them, they changed their minds (they are from New Hampshire, BTW).

I had to do something like that once. I grew a beard briefly back in '89, then shaved it off when I went job-hunting, and then started growing it again in late '91. Since then, I shaved it off once, for a Halloween costume, just like you're doing. Mine is for a slightly different reason, though. While you're going as a beardless character, I was using one of those masks with the latext pieces that you have to basically glue to your face. If I can find a pic, I'll have to post it.

So.

Apparently, despite the season, this thread has nothing to do with killing a goat.

Fine.

Catch up with you later, Jester, et. al.

They thought it was like a tame version of Mardi Gras.

Actually, quite the opposite....there are those (myself included) that consider Mardi Gras a tamer version of Fantasy Fest.

Unless, of course, you are talking about size, safety, and cleanliness. Because when you are talking about that, Mardi Gras has us beat, being larger, more dangerous, and far dirtier.

So if you TRULY want danger, go to Mardi Gras. :D

Well, not quite. I killed my goatEE. That oughtta count for something!

Yes. And I ain't posting them here.

Today's reactions:

My haircutter (who was the one that sheared my goatee off in the first place): "Whoa. That just ain't right."

ReformedWaitress: "You're an imposter. You're a pod person. You're not Jester!"

My friend D-Rod: "Oh. My. God! You just don't look right! I can't get used to this!"

HABB (Hot Athletic Bartender Babe): "What the...?!!?"

You know, a friend of mine recently shaved his long-time facial hair off. Just to mess with him, I pretended not to notice. It was obvious he expected something to be said, as HE gave ME the odd looks.

Now that you have scarificed the goatee I have a question. If you're going to wear a mask like he did in silence of the lambs who's gonna be able to tell if you have a goatee or not?

Well, through the mask it is possible that you would be able to tell. And when it comes to costumes, I am a stickler for details. Which is why I am currently searching for orange, not white or any other color, but orange scrubs.

Well, then, how about pics of your latest masterpiece?

That being....what?

My bf and I have an agreement. If he doesn't keep his face clean shaven, I won't keep my legs clean shaven. I don't like facial hair. I get rashes and red blotches around my mouth from kissing guys with facial hair. I like my boys with faces as smooth as a baby's butt!

BTW Jester, you KNOW we won't stop begging for pics, so give it up already buddy and show us the pictures :)

I think she means the Hannibal costume, dear, once you've done it and have pictures.

Which reminds me, by the way. You (well, all of you, but mainly him since he lives here and the rest of you don't) missed Alice in Wonderland Sunday night. Alice in Wonderland that made the bass player of the band stop playing and made Justin all but flip.

Yep. RW lost a bet and had to dress up on Sunday of Fantasy Fest. In probably the least amount of clothing she's ever worn in public (and trust me, I have some skimpy stuff -- I was less comfortable in this than I am in a bikini even though there was more fabric!! )

I'm loving FF so far!

I am guessing that people here would want pictures of that, too. Just a shot in the dark.
