Personally, I'm not a fan of anything too contrived--roses and chocolate are no-nos for me, but I don't know what your girlfriend likes. I usually love a gift that involves thought--something that shows that you know me and you pay attention to my likes!

According to those lists of silver/gold/diamond etc. anniversaries, one year is the paper anniversary, and you should get tickets to a show she wants to see. But then again those things generally only apply to marriage and then if you're into those traditional things.

When we'd been dating for a year, I gave my girlfriend a purple teddy bear with a love heart on its stomach area (we have a thing with stuffed animals, in our early dates I pulled a dozen of them out of various claw game machines). She gave me a ring with the Chinese characters for earth, water, air, wood and metal engraved on it (no special significance there other than it looks nice).

well for our 1 year of dating anniversary I got my now husband some *ahem* Adult anime and a Dragon/Phoenix necklace(carved carnelian when the two halves are together it makes a heart-Dragon is for the male and Phoenix is for the female).

He got me a frammed poster of my favorite band-The Ramones it's the first thing you see when you step into our apartment. every month for the first 6 months we were dating he got me something Ramones related-basicly because I started talking to him because he looked alot like a young Joey Ramone.

For our one year wedding anniversary-we got each other watches.

When my husband and I were dating, we had no money. He did something really cheap and yet really thoughtful: He knew I only liked red Skittles. I refused to eat any other colour. So he bought five large bags of Skittles and separated every single red Skittle from the bags and packaged them up for me.

Your girlfriend probably doesn't have mental issues like I do, but my point is that you should think outside the box. ;)

For our one year anniversary, TTO got me a puppy :)
I dunno if that's a good idea or not, depending on where she lives and such like. But yeah, get her something pertaining to her interests...

I'm not sure if money is an issue or not but if it's not,

for our one year anniversary (November 12) me and fiancee went to this little bavarian town called Frankenmuth. Not sure where you live but maybe you can go to a bed and breakfast or the like?

It was really nice because it gave us the chance to get away for the night, do some sightseeing and shopping and start this really nice tradition for every anniversary. Part of this tradition is buying a Christmas ornament at Bronner's (this huge christmas store) where we will put the date on it and the ornament will relate to something that happened that year. For example when fiancee publishes his book we will get an ornament relating to books, when I get my degree we will get an ornament that says something about Social Workers, etc. It's also something we hope to continue with our children.

This year money is a little tight so we will only go for the day, but still a fun gift that we give to each other by splitting the cost.

How about a weekend at a hotel in a suite with a hot tub, maybe a massage for her, a chance to get her nails or her hair done........?

Rather than getting a dozen roses, buy her a rose bush. That is, if there's a place she can plant it outside, or if she has the room to keep it inside. She'll have something that will last, not fade and die in a few days. If you're short on cash, set aside a day to do just what she wants to do. Carve a pumpkin and put a present inside, then give it to her. (For this, it's best to suggest that she light it, so that she'll find the present right away.) Buy her a DVD that she's been wanting. Give her a long bath and get in the tub with her. :)

See, there are lots of things you can do.

If money is an issue . . .you can make a cupon book . . things like - "This cupon entitles you to a free foot massage" "This cupon entitles you to a pick up and delivery from the take-out of your choice" "This cupon is for your choice of movie to see together with no comments from the peanut gallery" etc. think of things you can do to spoil her . . .things that are enjoyed together.

Basically for dating at one year if you put thought of who she is and things that have happened between the two of you - that is what counts. Acknowledge that you pay attention to her and value the relationship.

I had a guy write out our first year love story . . .basically he had kept track of every date we had been on and a way to remember it . . . ticket stubs, paper menu etc.

My sister took a poster board and made a card using candy/ candy bars . . . .
had comments like " It's (payday candy bar) everyday with you in my life"
"I go to (reese's pieces) when I am not with you"

For my one year anniversary, I got Legend of Dragoon for PS =p

If she's not into games (i.e. something you both can play), I suggest a blanket (like a previous poster) and then take her somewhere you two can sit and watch the sunset together under it =3

Pretty much like mentioned before. Make sure you know what she likes. Work within that. Romantic and sappy is never a bad idea if that works for her. Silly and fun, whatever makes her a happy person. And remember if mama aint happy then papa aint gonna be happy neither.....

I'm an old-fashioned romantic, (and a chick) so any gift at all was really nice for me. Except stuffed animals. I have enough of those already.

On our one-year my ex and I just went out to dinner. A lot of people would probably say "WTF?" but we were living together at the time and were excruciatingly poor. (I still am, minus the support. lol) It was nice to be able to go out on a nice "date' with all the bells and whistles because we just never did that stuff. And I've been a waitress for a long time and he said "wouldn't it be nice to have someone wait on YOU for once?"

And it was.
