View Full Version : trying to kill me is a GREAT way to teach a lesson

Was driving home last night along a lot of roads that were not well lit or not lit at all, so a lot of the time it was pitch black and I needed my high beams on in order to see ANYTHING.

Had a few car problems so the car wasn't able to go very fast, so a lot of the time I was going 10-15 K under the speed limit, which was ok because most people just passed me.

Not so for one guy. He passed me, then slammed on his breaks. Obviously I had high beams on when he went in front, but turned them off. I waited till he had speed of and was far enough away from me, that it was safe to turn them on again. As I said it was VERY hard to see in the dark with the normal lights, so yes I had to put them on again, but I waited till he was a speck in the distance to turn them on again.

All of a sudden he slows down again, so I turn them off. and kept them off. But for some reason he pulled over to the side of the road and stopped. Thinking nothing of it I kept going, then he pulls out behind me, tail gates me and starts flashing his high beams on and off. (turning them off when an oncoming car is coming). Now I had no clue as to why this dip shit was doing it, but it was stressing me out big time, I had my high beams on to see, but he turned his on and that meant even with the high beams on I couldn't see.

For a good 10 minutes we kept going like this. Till I pulled over hoping he would just pass me. Not so, he pulled over with me, got out of his car and the following conversation ensued.

Me: stressed out and scared
M: my hero
DS: Dip shit driver

DS: You know why I was doing what I did?
Me: No, but it was pretty stupid
DS: I was trying to teach you a lesson. You see when you had YOUR high beams on before I couldn't see. I wanted to show you what you were doing to me.
M: So your saying two wrong make a right?
DS: No, I was trying to teach you a lesson. SO I showed you what you were doing to me.
Me: I waited for you to be far enough away
M: You don't have that right sir, you don't have to the right to teach us a lesson, what you did was very dangerous
DS: Exactly, so you should no now not to put your high beams on
M: So your saying two wrongs make a right
DS: No, I was trying to teach you a lesson
M: by trying to kill us? You have no right to try and teach people lessons like that
DS: Because I'm such a nice guy I'm going to let you go with this warning.
M: We are nice people too, and you had no right to do what you did
DS: good, well I'm going to let you go this time, I hope I taught you a lesson
M: You have NO RIGHT to teach lessons like that, it was stupid and dangerous, now go back to you car and drive off, and we'll follow YOU.
DS: I hope you learned your lesson. (walks back to car with a rather scared look on his face (think he realised how stupid he was)
DS: (drives off)

M and I sat there for a while and I burst out crying. That was the scariest thing that has ever happened to me. I could not see, there were trucks and other cars coming in my direction. It was dark and the speed limit was 100. What IDIOT thinks that that is the right way to stop people from "doing the wrong thing". Trying to kill people is NOT a way to teach them a lesson. I did nothing wrong, I waited till he was far far away so I could turn my high beams on again. There is nothing illegal as far as I know about turning on high beams if the car in front is far away. The guy could see, he was just bullshitting. However tailgating someone and turning the high beams on and off is illegal and down right dangerous.

So to the dip shit who did that to me last night. I hope you rot in hell! You are an idiot! You could have killed me and M, and possibly someone else too. I bet you wouldn't have pulled over to help had there been an accident. I bet your such a coward you would have driven off. You are so stupid I hope you have not bread, because your offspring will only pollute the planet with more stupidity.

GO TO HELL!

I hate people that do that. I put the high beams on for me to see, if the regular lights are not cutting it. What he did was stupid. By doing that, he could have killed all of you.

As a side note, I hate the oncoming traffic, that has the high beams or those shitty looking blue beams on. They truly hurt my eyes, when I have to drive at night.

The blue ones hurt a lot more than high beams seem to. Next time, I'd suggest peeling out and driving away if someone else pulls over directly behind you like that. God knows they might become extremely violent. Thank God you are okay though.

He could have just used that little knob on his rear view mirror to flip it downward. You can still see in it, but the angle changes so the lights aren't so offensive.

It's not his job to "teach you a lesson!" He could be arrested for that! What a moron.

Personally, knowing that there are psycho road ragers out there willing to kill people over stupid crap, I would have just phoned the highway patrol via 911. What he did was far beyond illegal and considered reckless driving. Never ever pull over for anyone at night where it isn't properly lit. There have been murders and car hijackings even by people who posed as undercover cops.
When you saw him pull over and get out, you should have left immediately and hopefully either got on a cell phone or found the nearest well-lit establishment and called the cops with the description and his plate number.

I second FuzzyKitten. I would have kept going and if he didn't stop I'd have called the police on my cell. It's not worth the risk.

DS: Because I'm such a nice guy I'm going to let you go with this warning.
Um, what?! Unless he's a cop deciding not to give a ticket I would consider this a threat. And tell him to get in his car and drive away before I call the cops.

PS, where are you that the speed limit is 100?

I think its 100Km/h

Back to the thread, the dude has serious issues, I get annoyed when people areway behind me and have their high beams on, it still irritates but as has been previously mentioned, i move my left arm a bit and flip the switch.

Now what *really* grips my shit is people who drive with front fog lamps on when its not foggy, come the revolution they will be first against the wall. I get dazzld really easily and those lamps are incredibly bright and I basically can't see until you drive past me (either towards or past me)

Ah, that would make sense...Sorry, I think in MPH :)

I agree that I probably should not have pulled over. In fact it was down right stupid, anything could have happened. I was lucky THIS time, next time I'll wait till I know where I am and pull into a shop or something.

All I know is, had I not been so frassled and stressed out over what this dick did, I would have gotten his number plate and had him charger.

Oh well, one can only hope that the next time this dick decides to "teach someone a lesson" they take him to the cleaners!

stupid man

Well, then I guess he did teach you a lesson...albeit not the one he intended to... Important thing is that nothing happened. And keep your cell phone reachable just in case. (I hate really dark roads. There are a couple around me that have no lights whatsoever and there are a lot of deer around, too. I always get nervous.)

correction, you guys taught me the lesson :D:D:D;););)
I wouldn't have even thought of the concept of how stupid I was for getting out of the car ;)

But don't worry, from now on, I'll have a pen and paper handy to write down number plates, and a mobile (cell phone) on me always so I can call the cops :D:D

thanx to you guys I'll be more vigilant from now on :D

In the fight against evil one must always have "CONSTANT VIGILENCE!!!"

Seriously though. Glad you where okay. That sort of maniac is where you find the nearest cop and get his attention. Either that or hopefully some big biker style friends who would be able to teach him a very large (and painful) lesson.....

I don't know where you are, but in the US, you are not required to pull over for the police if you don't feel safe. If you have a cell phone, it's a good idea to call highway patrol or 911 and let them know that you're being pulled over and you are continuing until you get to a safe place to stop and for them to inform the officer behind you of that.

It doesn't matter why you do not feel the place you are being pulled over is safe, as long as you legitimately and reasonably feel it to be unsafe. That can include darkness, lack of a shoulder, or other unsafe road conditions.

Part of the reason for that is because of how many psychos out there will try to pose as police to catch victims. I don't trust strangers, even if they're dressed like cops.

I wouldn't have stopped either. Unless it's a marked car, I'd have kept going. Several departments here once used unmarked interceptors, but had to quit using them. Some idiot was pulling people over, usually young women, at night...and once word of that got out, nobody was stopping for the legit cops, even during the daytime.

I try not to blind people with my lights, but since the indicator is sometimes hidden by the steering wheel, an occasional mistake happens. But, if I get some asshole behind me with the highs on...I simply slow down enough until they back off or dim their lights. Most times though, I simply adjust my power mirrors, and reflect the light back at them ;)

I do that a lot when I get people with badly-adjusted headlights behind me.

I don't know where you are, but in the US, you are not required to pull over for the police if you don't feel safe.

Highway code also states 'pull over where safe and practicable'
