Cartoon Network is showing a Goosebumps marathon (sweet, I loved GB as a kid), and every now and then, they'll say, "You're watching the Goosebumps Monster Marathon" and they'll show the words, "Your Watching".
That's some forehead-smacking goodness right thar.

:headdesk: It's really not that hard!!!!! Hate when people can't differentiate between "you're" and "your." Hateithateithateithateit HATE IT! When I point it out though, people say I'm making too big a deal out of it, though.

Along with signs stating
'5 Items or less'
Its not less, its fewer dammit!
We have a running joke where I work that we need an Official Proofreader. I can't believe the amount of stuff that comes out both for internal and external use that has glaring grammatical errors.
I can't believe that documentation where I work, stuff that is MUCHO important, stuff that goes in our files and gets shipped to customers....etc etc.....is typed up by people who must have failed 3rd grade English.

Tell them if it's such a small, insignificant little thing, than the least they could do is get it right ;)
Same with There, They're, Their. :runaway:

Could you please explain to me why it should be fewer and not less? I can't see the problem with it.... And I'm going to be an English teacher. :headscratch:

Less is for volume. Fewer is for numerical values. So, for the checkout lines, it should be 8 items or fewer.
That your vs you're and their vs they're vs there thing really annoys the heck out of me, too.
Oh, and there's a sign on my way home for a John Deere dealership that says that "HATS AND T-SHIRT'S AVAILABLE".

Am I alone in the fact that when some sort of important memo or note is posted anywhere, that when there are spelling and grammar errors, it is difficult to truly take it seriously? Even though you'll go by the note/memo's request if it applies to you, but you kind of giggle to yourself about it...
I actually used to correct and grade the ones that my stepmom would post on the employee board when I worked with her, just to mess with her. She was (and still is) notorious for using to/too, your/you're and other common errors, so I just gave her crap.

We used to play music with this guy who was a bit...how shall I say this...anal about certain things, particularly music related things.
We do this song called "Derry" which is about the trials and angst of a ship of criminals on their way to Australia in the early 1800's. The chorus is "I wish I was back home in Derry."
He wanted to change it to "I wish I were back home in Derry." Cuz, you know, it's more correct that way.
I'm told him "Sugar. It's a boatloat of 19th century convicts, not a boatload of Harvard professors with PhDs in English."
We didn't change it.

From the computer system at work:
"Previously Veiwed"
I have found no instances in our system where the word "viewed" is spelled correctly.

Yeek. That would drive me nuts, too.
I'm the one at my office that does all of the memos, so I can't search for typos in them.
I get that job because 1) I am fast and accurate, 2) I phrase things in a manner that is agreeable and concise, and 3) I do nice formatting. The Halloween Luncheon memo, for example, has a candy corn border, and different fonts, including a dripping-blood style one for the word Halloween.
There's a woman at work who consistently writes the phrase "bill too" and it annoys the heck out of me. And she's the sort of person who will purposely look like an ignorant hick just to be "different."
