Count me in!
I haven't really watched much recently, due to lack of time and the Chris Benoit incident but I try to keep up on what's going on and tune in every now and then.
Also like sumo and ultimate fighting. That's basically it for sports I like to watch.

Well, good, seems I won't be alone then. I'm a die hard fan, good or bad, high or low, I will always support them. Kinda stopped watching back on '03 and got back into it in late '05, once I adjusted to the new faces and such I have grown to love it even more (Except Cena, dont know why, he just rubs me the wrong way). However I could do without the Divas. What ever happened to real women wrestlers like Moolah, Susan Tex Green, Madusa, Chyna(oi)?
I also wrestled myself for a few years back in the mid to late 90's. I'm getting ready to return to the ring sometime in the next year. I just can't watch the action without longing to be in there. Wish me luck on my return.
So, lets hear some of your likes and dislikes. What makes all of you wrestling fans?
Oh, and while I do enjoy the New ECW, it will never be like the original, and I give Vince credit for coming out at the beginning and admitting it was going to be different. Sadly a lot of people don't listen and still expect it to be the same.

I'm more of a fan of the attitude era. The crap they are doing now is just......boring. Some good things pop up here and there, but lately, it's been drab. Even TNA has been drab. Oh well. Hopefully it goes up from here. I know the RAW DX One Night Reunion was alright, but the Austin beer bath was awsome. Brings back memories.....sigh.
Bright, i'm sure you've noticed my nice shiny avatar and title. :D For now, Triple H is my fav active superstar. All time fav has to go to Austin.

Have to agree with you there, the Attitude Era was the best. Get the F out!!
Sadly without any direct competition we won't see anything like that again. Now if only TNA had the Balls to actually compete with WWE and go on the air the same night as RAW, Smackdown, or even ECW then maybe things would be interesting again. But alas, they won't.

Chyna was a man. ><
Wrestling = Male soap opera. <cough> hehe.
I'm still bewildered when I hit it channel flipping these days. It's gone to such complete shiat ( I blame that douchebag, what's his name? Vince Mcman or something? ) and the crowd is always full of delusional, absolutely frothing rednecks screaming for blood. When I was a kid wrestlers were actual role models Worst thing my mom had to worry about me picking up was Hulk Hogan telling me to take my vitamins and make sure to say my prayers before I went to bed. ;p

No you're not the only one who misses the real ECW. Hell, I miss WCW. It forced the WWE to really compete. Since then it seems more like a parody of itself.

Ahh yes, WcW, the real reason the Attitude era began in the, then, WWF. And I agree with the fact that some serious competition would do them some real good right about now. They've got some decent talent, but keep starting story lines and dropping them or poorly developing them. Of course, I'm not a fan of a friggin 3 year title run ala Cena. (Slaps head) Don't get me wrong, I don't hate Cena, but a 3 year run??? Madness I says....Madness!!
I've never really looked up to any of them as role models when I was a kid. I couldn't stand it as a kid really. Once I saw Austin dumping crap piles in the bosses office, dousing him in beer, flipping him off, and generally kicking the crap out of Vince every show, it sucked me in. What a shock why I liked it when I was working full time, out of high school, and hated my boss.
I don't fully blame Vince, mainly because the creative team really isn't there like it used to be. That and the fact that all the superstars that really made an impact are gone due to injury, retirement, movies, or issues. (peronal and company) Oh sure, Vince does need to share in some of the blame, but I think he's just getting old and starting those wonderful golden years. ;) Ah yes, I can see it now,Shane pushing Vince down the ramp in a wheelchair with his oxygen tank, Austin in the middle of the ring with his walker cause his knees are completely shot and a beer IV in his arm.
vonkarolinas
11-12-2007, 08:05 AM
Yeah, their creative team is not the best. I blame Stephanie McMahon, she needs to let the creative team be, well, creative. I don't know exactly how they have it set up but I think a good way to go would be to break up the team. Have a couple of writers who's soul focus is the world tite, a couple on the WWE title, and so forth. Teams who's only job is to write for the title scene, then split the others up between the rest of the rosters on ECW, SMackdown, and RAW.

He just came back in October from knee problems (story was he got a concussion at the hands of Randy Orton). Sunday at Survivor Series he is in a WWE Championship match.
You can tell he is wearing knee braces now, and that he is having a bit of trouble getting used to them.

Dale, yeah I can see that. Here we got a great indy fed that has been operating for about 10 years wich is a feat these days. Plus now we get monthly CWA shows in town featuring TNA wrestlers and locals. It really seems like the Indy feds are making a comeback, and that is probably due in part to there being no real competition on tv any more.

Lucky. The way things have been going with WWE, unless the PPV is one of the big 4 {Royal Rumble, Wrestlemania, SummerSlam, Survivor Series} there most likely won't be anything too big. BUt then again, they seem to be on an upward swing here so maybe it will kick some ass.
I haven't been to a PPV since WWF In Your House back in 1996. But I've been to some Nitros and Raws since then.

The only reason I remember the two Raws I went to, is that they were both birthday presents for my wife. The Smackdown in 07 was (sorta) for my birthday, and the one in 2002 I won tickets from a local radio station.
Nevermind - it was April 2002 that I went to the Smackdown I won tickets to. Here are the results:

That was the one where Joey Mercury got busted up, correct?
Melissa and I also graced the cameras of ECW on Sci-Fi when we went. CM Punk was coming out for a match and the guy about three rows in front of us had a big CM Punk Pepsi tattoo sign and the cameras zoomed in on it.

WWEshop.com doesn't include Chris Benoit's match with Chavo Guerrero in the description of the DVD anymore, so I wonder if they either omitted it from the site or remastered it having removed all mention of Benoit from the event. (They've done this to their on-air and online footage, so I wouldn't be surprised if they cut him out altogether.) If they removed Benoit and pressed a new, "censored" disc, then the one I have is indeed a collector's item.

That's sad to hear that Shawn Michaels is struggling with the knee braces, but good to hear that he's back at the same time, and doing alright aside from the knee problems.
We don't get wrestling ( The WWE that is) here in australia unless we have foxtel etc (Cable), which is kind of sad as some of us prefer the free to air tv as they provide more subtitles than cable tv does ( cable provides about 5% of subtitles compared to free to air tv).

I think we do, I'm not so sure on that because it's not widely published like WWE, and no, they don't televise them. If they did, it'd proably wouldn't be the same compared to WWF-WWE...

I know for a little while there was the World Wrestling All-Stars, but it went out of business rather quickly. It contained a lot of talent that the WWE didn't pick up. Consequently a good portion of the WWA roster is in TNA now (along with the WWA Titles being unified with NWA titles).
Some of the people involved were: Jeff Jarrett, Frankie Kazarian (Kaz), Scott Steiner, Sting, Nathan Jones (Colossus of Bogot* Road), Chris Sabin, Disco Inferno, Psicosis, Shark Boy, and Trinity among others.
I was able to see the final WWA PPV, and they had some great matches on it, especially the four way cruiserweight match and Jarrett vs Sting.

Morrison/Mizanin/Punk was awesome.
Batista/Undertaker was blah until Edge returned.

Yeah, I think the ECW match was the best they had. I really wish they would do more with these guys
Batista/Undertaker was probably the 2nd worst Hell in a Cell Ive ever seen, and it was the main reason I watched.
I never really watch the Divas because they just aren't wrestlers and arent fun to watch. Whatever happened to real lady wrestlers?
That's about all I have to say for Survivor Series. My next question is what the hell is creative thinking?? Why is it, unless a champion gets hurt or it is Wrestlemania we never seem to get a title change? Honestly you could make a forune betting on WWE Title matches at PPVs, just bet on the current champ.

I haven't said much in this thread because I just haven't been watching much lately. I've been downloading a ton of old stuff from WW-then-F, WCW, etc., and watching that. I keep an eye on things, download the matches I want to watch, but between about half a dozen different projects I have right now (all of which involve wrestling, go figure), I don't have as much time for just passively watching.
However, I will say that in TNA, Awesome Kong is fast becoming one of my favorite performers. The women's division as a whole in TNA is tremendous because they're using it just right...letting the talented women do the work and using the less experienced ones as cannon fodder and valets. I'm really looking forward to seeing what Kong and Gail Kim come up with this Sunday at Turning Point.
I wonder if enough time has passed that I can tell my story about seeing Kamala naked again. Everyone always loves that story.

Ooooh, what wrestling projects?
I used to have somewhere around 1,000 hours of old WCW on tape, but they were stolen when my storage unit was broken into. I think I have about 24 hours left (including one of the few WCW All Nighters).
Naked Kamala? do I want to know?
MystyGlyttyr
11-29-2007, 01:38 PM
Music videos, essays, a comic strip, etc., so forth, so on, heh. Silly things, mostly, but I take them seriously.
I just burned my 58th CD, and taking away the back-ups for music, AIM logs, and programs, I think I overall have about 55 CDs of nothing but wrestling stuff. Probably 50 of which are unique matches. Not bad for two and a half years with dial-up
Heh, well, a couple of years ago, I was backstage at a local Legends of Wrestling show. Fun night, bunch of people were there, locals and major names. Greg Valentine, Skandor Akbar (who is freaking HYSTERICAL to talk to), Action Jackson, etc. The two "big names" on the card were Kamala and Shawn Stasiack.
Well, Shawn Stasiack was a bit of a prick all night, not wanting to talk to anyone backstage, go over match stuff, or socialize, just sort of holing up in his locker room. (We got him back later, but I'm not going into detail on that ;) )
So anyway, his match comes up, and his opponent is out in the ring. His music starts...and plays...and plays. And no Shawn. After about five minutes, a few of us scatter out to try and figure out where the hell he's gotten off to. I head back to the locker room. Just as I've raised my hand to knock, the door flings open and Shawn starts to come out.
And standing right behind him, completely freaking naked save for the flip-flops on his feet, is Kamala.
"Screamed" is not precisely the word to describe my reaction. Long story short, I'm an asexual virgin, never even kissed a guy...never had any interest in looking at naked guys. Long story short, aside from possibly my dad at some point in my childhood (and if I did, I can't remember it), I'd never seen a naked man before.
I shrieked out something that was half panic attack and half apology and bolted for the bleachers to hide under them for a while. After the other guys stopped laughing, they managed to coax me out with the promise of getting back at Shawn, heh. Kamala kind of tried to apologize but I was just sort of like "Okay, sure..." *shuffle away* Poor guy, he didn't do anything wrong...me and Skandor's wife were the only two females in the entire backstage area so he had no reason to think one of us would be passing by at that exact instant in time!
So yeah, for the rest of eternity, I go through life with the first naked man in it being Kamala the Ugandan freakin' Giant.
vonkarolinas
11-29-2007, 02:14 PM
Soooo, my next question then is um, what was Shawn doing with a naked Kamalah that caused him to be late getting to the ring? Or, maybe I don't really want that image in my head.

So, anybody else thing that having ECW on tonight as opposed to Wed. is a sign that they are testing the waters for a move to Thursday to try and take on TNA?
Nah. It was due to the Tin Man mini-series. If WWECW (clever nickname from a different board I frequent) wants to take on Impact, Impact will possibly blow them away. I know I would watch TNA over WWECW for the main fact I can watch a somewhat better product on Impact.
The one hour of ECW on Sci-Fi consists of about three matches, some that are just rehashes of the last couple weeks. The main events are usually some mish-mash of Kane, CM Punk, Big Daddy V, John Morrison, or Mike Mizanin.
Impact, however, has a lot more going for it as far as ring product. They do, however, have some issues with how the show is presented and not carrying forward with some ideas. Watching it tonight (12/6) I only watched two matches (Dudleys/Devine vs Motor City Machine Guns/Lethal and the 10-man main event tag) and they had more in-ring product than ECW has provided.
