My daughter ... my beautiful, loveable, brilliant daughter ... I love her so much! I really do.

However, I do not love it when she gets a hold of a ball point pen, a (washable) crayon or a (washable) marker. She likes to "decorate" our couch & loveseat.

Mother-in-law is coming to the house tomorrow to babysit. (Yay?) And my lovely couch/loveseat is covered in marker/crayon/pen. I've tried using the cleaner that was suggested to me via the manufacturer. *le sigh* It's not working! I need slipcovers ... Well, at least I know what to ask the in-laws for Christmas - gift cards to like bed, bath & beyond, linens & things or Target.

Maybe I need more elbow grease?

When I was young nothing in our house was 'neutral' for exactly this reason. If it was neutral it would quickly become multi-coloured or grey.

Don't know what else to suggest- are the cushion covers removable and washable? Might it come off that way?

what I have use to get stuff like that out (remember, I have not only my kids, but my daycare kids) is OxyClean. I don't know what it will do with microsuede, but the stain-spray works wonders, as well as the Tide-pen.

Believe it or not, I have gotten out baby spit-up stains that were 3 years old using powdered OxyClean and Superconcentrated Tide with hot water. All the clothes look brand new, including the white onesies.

Maybe buy a lock box, put all writing utensils inside and take the key with you?

NightAngel - that is what I might have to end up doing. My daughter is like a little monkey - alway climbing. :D

I've been researching slipcovers. I might go with black. I wanted like a dark blue/navy/midnight/jewel tone, but haven't seen one I like. Definitely no flowers.

Until then, I'll just have to get Kelly interested in drawing on actual paper.

How about something like in the movie 9 to 5. A garage door opener with a harness on one end. If she starts to get into trouble just hit the remote and it will suspend her from the ceiling.

Tanasi!!!! That is brilliant! Absolutely brilliant! Man, I wish I was that talented in the technology area that I could actually come up with something like that! LOL .. Thank you for making me smile before work.

My daughter did the same thing last week.

Couch, meet Mr. Sharpie.

Black, permanent marker. On my couch.

Luckily, I have a cleaner called Folex (http://www.folexcompany.com/) which got it out completely.

This stuff is amazing. I've used it for years.

Pick some up at Lowe's. You'll be glad you did.

*May I have my endorsement money now, Folex?*

Did you say mother in law?!

Le gasp! Le horror!

Don't tell me she's one of those evil witches who comes over to your place just to proclaim that she'd always wished her son could have had a better housewife than you, etc etc etc?

I love my gramma to death, but back in the day when she'd come to babysit my brother and me, she'd always make snide remarks to my mother about how bad of a cleaner my mother was and how awful of a cook she was and how she'd always wanted a better housewife for her son. One day my mother finally told her if she didn't like it she didn't have to come over, and gramma stopped with the remarks.

One time when I was little, my mom went down to the basement to throw a load of wash in.

While she was gone, I drew all over the living room carpet with a purple crayon, which she then had to scrub up with a bucket of soapy water and a rag or sponge.

I am told she did a lot of cursing while she was cleaning up after Irv and His Purple Crayon.

Actually, Blas, what I've gathered from my hubby, his mom didn't say anything about my housecleaning abilities (though she has done so in the past).

Hubby agrees with me - black slipcovers! At least I have his agreement about it. Whew. :) Now I just have to decide if I want the surefit type (that practically mold to your furniture) or the original type where it looks like you put a sheet over your furniture and just tucked it in around the corners.
