So, the muttock gets a rawhide chew treat two or three times a week. He normally goes out to the garden to work out on it, and generally leaves it there.
I've discovered that since we've moved to a new place, the chews get left there and then nicked by the conniving kitties. (has to be them, there aren't any wall climbing dogs near us).
So, my question is - is there anything I can put on the walls that can deter cats? Nothing nasty or anything, but maybe like a scent that says to them "Stay away"?
Hops is getting bleak, coz he goes out to get his chew and then looks at me as if to say "What the heck? It was here a minute ago!"

That's actually quite funny.
*But* in the canine world, the dog did give it up by leaving it behind so it was fair game.
I've seen my cats take rawhides right out of the dogs' mouths! :)

Lion poo.
Works fantastically, you'll never get another moggie in the garden again!
(try and get friendly with local zoo, they'll have piles of the stuff they can't get rid of.)

Supposedly, Mint and/or Citrus will keep cats away. The other option would be to put something sticky on the top of the wall. Not so sticky they can't get away, but sticky enough that it will cling to their paws when they jump down. Cats HATE sticky.

50,000 volt 2 amp electric grid. Should solve any wall incursion problems you have altogether..... ;)
Seriously though.

I'd actually second the big cat poop comment above. See if you can make friends with a keeper at the local zoo, especially if there's a small one, and they should be able to oblige. Sticky does work as well, but I'm not sure *what* exactly you could use.
And if you think that's bad, you should've been at my parents' house when one of the neighborhood coyotes tried to make off with our 93-lb yellow lab's prized "stinky bone," which mom would no longer allow in the house. I'm just glad that me knocking on the window and Sunny's barking scared the bugger off. She'd have been mad if it'd taken her bone.

Actually, go to a lawn&garden store/lawn &garden section of your local big-box store. They should have several products that would do the trick. Around here, the two products that come to my mind are "Pet-B-Gone" (or something like that) or "Get Off My Garden". Yes, that's the name of the product. No, I'm not making that up.
They're meant to keep cats and dogs (as well as rabbits, deer, and other garden-loving critters) out of the garden by releasing an unpleasent odor. If you can't find anything, I've heard peppermint oil will do in a pinch.

Um, the problem with that idea is that, well, wouldn't it affect Iradney's dog as well?!?!?!

True, but if she were to spread it around--for example--the perimeter of the yard, then it would keep the animals out of the yard. As a potential bonus, it might be even more encouragment for iradney's dog to stay within the yard.

That's all brilliant ideas guys. I'm thinking of the peppermint oil one - I LOVE mint. Luckily there are walls all around the yard, and the muttock isn't prone to wandering since he was neutered.
Really appreciate the advice guys :)
Oh, I asked about Pet-B-Gone and Get off My Garden - the closest thing they had was that aloe type spray that stops dogs from chewing things. Im not too keen on spraying aloe on something that's eyelevel!!

Um, should I note at this point that my cat loves peppermint, and will try to get at an altoid in someone's mouth?
I'd go with the citris thing. Maybe orange rinds scattered around the fence base?
