I've been asked to become the new AM at my old manager's new store. (Confused yet?) It wouldn't be a promotion, since I already am AM.
I called P to get the specifics (basically, my hours). I asked the advice of my dear friend who got me into the company, since he's been with the company for 10 years at numerous stores.
I'm still wavering back and forth. I'm comfortable where I am, but, I am first choice to make the move. My boss' boss's boss, who I haven't met yet, apparently thinks I'd be a great fit there.
::sigh::
Any suggestions?

The first question is, would there be greater opportunity for promotion at some point in the future if you become AM at the new store? (for instance: different store structure, larger store...)
If that's the case, then it would clearly be worth the move. If this is not the case, what else would you have to gain by moving to the new store? Would the location be an advantage or a problem?
Sorry, you've probably considered these things already, but to be honest, I couldn't quite tell from your post what the actual advantages and disadvantages of making the move would be.
Whichever way you decide, I wish you all the best!!! :D

What would the move do for you? I think that's the question you need to answer and from that question, your action follows.
If it's something like matt said - where you have a greater chance of being promoted if you do move - then go for it. It's a great compliment that your boss' boss' boss thinks you'd be a great fit, and if that's word from on high, you may be doing your career a disservice to ignore what he thinks.
What would be the advantages vs. the disadvantages of the move?

In terms of my career, it would probably be a huge plus, since the current manager will probably be retiring within a few years.
In almost all other aspects, it won't work for me. It's awkward to get to from where I live (but it's roughly the same distance as my current store). The hours would be sucky, but I'm told we can work around them. The manager would be the only person I know there. I've already walked into a semi awkward situation when I became AM at my current store, and don't really want to do that for the second time in 5 months.
I honestly don't know what my decision will be. I wish I had more time to think about it, but I understand why they want it made ASAP.
I do find it a tiny bit odd that my current manager is really pushing me to make this move.

How about making a list of pros and cons for each place? Then go from there.;)

It's because they didn't pick you. You're a legacy from the old manager's reign, and the new manager is probably uncomfortable having you there for the typical shallow reasons. Since the new manager isn't an ass, they're just urging you to take the new option instead of making you miserable.

I was all set to give it a try (against my gut feeling), when I got to work and found out that my boss told our old boss that I'm not going to do it. :rolleyes: Oh well. Tomorrow, I'm going to call P and thank her for thinking of me, and that I am extremely flattered, and ask her to also tell that to her bosses, who also wanted me to do this.
Maybe next time, I'll be ready to do it. :wave:
