View Full Version : Are you a slob?

BE HONEST!
I'm not talking about our stories of customers leaving atomic bombs in the bathroom, evil roomate stories past and present, or annoying neighbor posts of people who should have a Hazmat team take care of their place......
I'm just talking about the Code Yellow or Code Orange slobs. I'd consider myself a Code Maccaroni, yellow and orange.
My car is full of straw wrappers. I ran out of room in the little spots in my cardoor where you can stash stuff. They are bursting out with empty straw wrappers and empty gum wrappers. One day it was so windy, I opened up my car door and about 10 of them flew out and went for a joy ride!
My car is also full of empty cigarette packs and empty perfume bottles and empty lipglosses and other girly crap. Samples of lotions from the tanning salon and stickers that you put on yourself to show how tan you've gotten.
I haven't vacuumed my car since I bought it in June of 2006.
I don't own a vacuum or a broom for my apartment. I borrowed my parents' vacuum one day last summer. That thing barely fit in my Neon and it was so loud the lady downstairs threw a fit.
I Kaboomed the toilet the day I moved in, but there's such a problem in my city with extremely hard water that if you go a few days without cleaning your shower, tub or toilet, they get full of this pinkish or magenta colored rust. My toilet is pink on the inside full of rust!
How do I comebat this? Not being able to afford a table to eat on, I eat on the floor with mass paper towles and napkins. I never spill anything. Anything that forms crumbs, I wipe them away.
I use the toilet wand once a week or so to get rid of some of the rust, but I think today I probably SHOULD buy some more Kaboom.
I am blas87, and I am a borderline slob!

Ah, where to begin . . . *stares at table where computer is sitting* Ah, that's a good place to start. It currently has an assortment of wrappers from gum, candy canes and pop tarts, some tabs pulled off of energy drink cans, stubs of paychecks and car payments, a deck of playing cards, some LOST action figures, a stack of blank CD-R's, a Winn Dixie bag filled with who knows what, Mom just said that it's all my stuff and she didn't know what to do with it so she put it all in the bag. There's also an empty film cannister (and it's only ever had FILM it it, I promise! :p ), a Tylenol bottle, and ear drops for Mort. On top of the computer itself are three stuffed penguins, a talking figure of Donkey from a Happy Meal, and an obese ceramic sheep with a butterfly on his belly.
I guess that makes me a sloppy collector. Or something.
My bedroom is a disaster. Instead of putting my clothes into drawers and on hangers when they come out of the wash, like a civilized person, I'll just dump them onto the floor. I have a basket to put dirty clothes in, so they're separated. This is probably my worst bad habit, and I really should try and break it, especially since Meeko likes to go in my room and make the pile into his own personal cozy spot and leaves long white and red hairs all over everything. Silly dog. I'd like the room to be more organized, but I think I've just gotten to the point where I have too much stuff to be able too. Under my bed and propped against the walls are long boxes with swords I've bought and have no place to hang, and I have two big plastic bins filled with action figures that people have bought me or I've collected over the years. I'm planning on having a very nice display/entertainment room when I get my own place :D
My car mainly just needs a vacuum; I bought it brand new and make sure everyone takes their cups and food wrappers with them when they get out. Aside from the odd ponytail holder or pair of sunglasses, all it has is sand.
Yep, I'm a slob. Hehe.

Me? A slob? Depends where you look.
At work I am known for being anal. Everything in its place, and a place for everything. Most times, my truck is close to immaculate. Currently it has a lot of costume parts thrown in it from Fantasy Fest which I haven't cleaned out yet, but that is the exception, not the rule.
Then there's the apartment.
I have two problems. The first one, the easy one, is that I love to cook and hate to clean up after it. Yes, we have a dishwasher. No, it never gets horrible, but I will leave the dishes I use sitting for a few days before I get to them. My roommate who has the biggest issue with this is the one that leaves his dishes out with food still on them. (I DON'T do that...I just don't unload/load the dishwasher as quickly as I should.)
Other than the kitchen, for the most part I really don't leave anything of mine in the common area.
However, the biggest slob problem in my life is my room.
Atom bomb anyone?
My computer desk right now is a joke, filled with papers, books, old mail, various notes to myself, packs of playing cards (I'm a magician, I have cards everywhere!), etc. The floor is littered with dirty clothes. To my credit, my clean clothes are either still in the bundles they come home from the laundrywoman in or put away....I don't throw clean clothes on the floor. But the room is....disastrous. I have stuff I have been meaning to hang up forever that still just sits there. I don't dust, and this place, I really need to. It is just totally unorganized. I keep telling myself that when I have a day off I will take care of it, but due to my amazing ability to procrastinate, when I DO get that day off, I don't do diddly squat. I'll either sit here and play on the computer, having fun on CS.com, or I'll watch mindless tv, or I'll go out with my friends, or whatever. Anything to avoid cleaning up after myself. I have all these things I want to do, but in my head, I can't really do them until I clean up this sty. And of course, I never clean up this sty.
Amusingly, while I'd like to meet a new girl (either for a fling or a relationship), I just can't see bringing anyone I meet into....this.
*sigh* Wow, this was depressing to write. I'd cook someone the best dinner they ever had if they would just come in here and take care of all the shit that I have to take care of in my room. Any takers?

well let's see, im looking around my room right now and all I see is a field of Dr. Pepper cans....nope i'm not a slob.
Other slobs want to make me their King. There is just way too much of me, and way too small of an apartment. Plus I moved in here three years ago and still haven't officially unpacked... I've been preparing to move since the day I moved in.

I wouldn't consider myself a clean freak, since I leave the occasional pair of pants or book lying around. I just don't have time to clean and organize obsessively. But visitors will often say my room and apartment are spotless. I think a lot of these people are slobs, however.
As for the car? Has to be vaccuumed once a week and cleaned with Armor-all or I become very discontent.

I'm generally good at cleaning up after myself. There are on occasion some clothes, HW assignments and a dirty dish lying around.
However, there are some times out of sheer boredom I will act like a neat freak and go on a cleaning rampage; like in a psycho OCD way.

I have the opposite problem. I am seriously obsessive-compulsive.
I am a neat freak, and I organize obsessively. I get a lot of my exercise scrubbing my house down. I clean out my cupboards monthly with a soapy rag followed by a dry one. My refrigerator is neatly organized by size. I don't own a toilet brush because they get nasty so quickly, I clean my toilet with a heavy duty rag, which I can then wash with lots of bleach.
My cds, dvds and records are in alphabetical order, and my books are grouped by subject. I have a 3 bin laundry sorter and I have to turn all my clothes right side out before I put them in the correct bin. All the handwash clothes get handwashed every week and laid out to dry over the shower curtain rod. After I take a shower I have to put the bathmat up on the rod as well so it dries. I have copper utensils in my kitchen and I soak them in vinegar often to keep them shiny.
I have a milk carton just inside my front door for shoes because I can't stand having shoes on my carpet. I clean the carpets obsessively. I scrub out my kitchen sink every morning with baking soda and soap to make it shiny. I run all the sheets and blankets (and my comforter) through the washing machine once a week. Once a month I move all the furniture and vacuum underneath everything.

Without going into too much detail, the answer to that question is an emphatic HELL YES.
Dust is my mortal enemy when it comes to allergies. Yet it exists in copious amounts in my room. Because I'd much rather goof off than bother to clean it away - and will only do so if I absolutely have to.
Having ADD kinda helps if one aspires to great heights of slobdom...
I'd cook someone the best dinner they ever had if they would just come in here and take care of all the shit that I have to take care of in my room. Any takers?
That depends. How much money are you willing to part with? Nothing in life is for free, y'know!

While I may have an icky kitchen floor and a rusty potty, most of my rooms are spotless.
My bedroom closet, the clothes are organized. To the far left are hoodies. Next to them are work t-shirts. Next to them are tanktops and undershirts. Next to that are light sweaters. Next are the heavier sweaters. On the far right are the summery short sleeve shirts.
Up on the shelf, two piles of jeans are "days off" jeans. Too nice to wear to work. The third pile are work jeans. The next pile are courdoroys. The next pile are track pants. The next pile are slacks.
All of my perfumes and lotions and girly crap are organized. My makeup bag is organized. Bases, foundations and powders are in the first pouch. Eyeshadows and blushes and lipsticks are in the second. Eyebrow and eyeliner pencils and mascaras are in the third. Skin treatment and other random Mary Kay stuff is in the fourth pouch.
Sometimes I'm a slob sometimes I'm OCD.

Hi. My name is Bunny and I am a packrat.
I wouldn't say so much that I'm a slob but I do have a lot of clutter. You give me a flat surface and guess what? It's gonna have stuff on it. A dresser? It's going to have clothing I wear a lot on it. Shoes? Yup, they're in a cute little clump where I can find them at the last minute. Did I also mention I'm a procrastinator?
I'm trying to get better now that I live with my DBF. We're both kindof messy but we're both trying. The worst is garbage (we have a beer corner) and the litter boxes (we both hate doing them).
I do try to keep the kitchen clean at least since that's what everyone sees coming into our house. The basement is DBF's problem. The rest is mine. Man I hate being responsible!!!

I can be a clean freak, especially when I am upset. When upset I just can't stop cleaning. I like everything to be in its place and for nothing to be on any surface. and I want my floors to sparkle.
But I live with a bunch of packrat slobs. but am moving next month! yay...and taking one of them with me....meh.....
although at this place I really havent kept too clean and I have given up a week ago. being the only one who is cleaning anything out of 6 people is tiresome.

I'm a total neat freak. I cannot stand things messy or out of place no matter where I am. Unless a cat is looking comfy on my bed in the morning, I make my bed every morning.
gbm85 once made a joke that I probably take my clothes off from the day and put them straight into the washer. Well, that's probably not that far off base. ;)

I *LIKE* cleaning. I hate doing laundry but I'll happily do any other cleaning that needs to be done.
And dirty toilets... UGH... I clean mine at least once a week! And I'm glad to see I'm not the only one who hates toilet brushes-YUCK. They are so gross! I have disposable toilet scrubbers, and they are awesome. :D

No offense taken. But my offer still stands for everyone else here who likes to clean, and who has never lived with a French chef.
I'm game for anything but celery and ramen.
I rarely use celery in my dishes, and as for ramen, other than the occasional bout with being sick, haven't bothered with that crap since college. And I would let you either pick the dish or tell me some of the things you like so I could appropriately pick a dish you would like.
Keep in mind, I COOK. I don't BAKE. Dessert? I would import.
And you would have to let me clean up after you.
Do you HEAR me objecting to that? I have said for years that I would marry the woman that would wash my dishes!

I hear you on both sentiments! I'm on my own, which is lovely, but it also gives me no extra incentive to clean, as I'm the only one who has to deal with the mess. I am looking forward to the end of football season (During the Big Ten season this year, there were 3 games, home or away, that I did not go to. And one of those weekends I was house-sitting. That means I've had 2 weekends to relax, and therefore I've barely cleaned at all in the past few months!) because I will soon have time to clean some.
Keep in mind, I still clean the bathroom, and the kitchen, and I vacuum and dust to keep my allergies under control, but I just have *stuff* everywhere. And my clothes don't like living in my dresser. So they live on my floor. :o I really need to finish going through my clothes and give half of them away, as well. Oy.

I'm not so much a slob, it's just that I have, on average, 4758943573248954758349257289573489 different projects in progress at any given time. For example, my desk currently contains 3 different paintball markers in various states of disassembly, a handful of slightly-busted Warhammer 40K minis, two cans of Full Thottle, more papers then I can shake a stick at, various sundry other items and a C textbook. It does NOT, however, contain a computer. That's on the other side of the room in pieces because I'm reworking the cooling system and prepping its new hard drive. The hard drive is at the bottom of the nightstand pile, which contains a pile of guitar tabs, a laptop, pop cans and a kitten making an unholy mess. I have no idea where my guitar is, I can only assume it's under the smoke-and-booze scented clothes and the cat sleeping on them from last night.
However, I am *anal* about dishes. Well, it's more because I hate fruit flies. And, sadly, my roommates don't share this, so I've given up trying to teach them and just sort of accepted that I have to do dishes for 3. Good thing we have a dishwasher.

For me, it does. :p I'm broke and unemployed. :(
Besides, if you made a dinner, and I liked it (not quibbling over your skill; I just happen to like food a lot so for the purposes of this post we shall assume that whatever got made is good), then I would want to hang around. And trust me - that would not be a good thing. (Especially being that I've had a taste of tropical climate once before and *hated* it with every fiber of my evil-cold-snow-loving being).

I'm a part-time slob. There are certain things I'm picky about and others...not so much. My kitchen and livingroom are always neat and clean but my bedroom could be considered a disaster area. (My garage, too.) I have a small house with only one closet, so things kind of get dumped in my bedroom or garage because there's no place else to put them.
One thing I do have a big problem with is spilling food or drink on my clothes when I eat. It never fails, as soon as I put on a nice clean shirt and eat with it on, I have dribbled something down the front of me.
If I get new clothes I don't dare eat while wearing them. It's disgusting!

I'm a slob of convinience, but I am getting better.
I have a cheap 1 bedroom apartment, and I rarely have anyone over so therefore my mess is mine to deal with, but the worst of it is the stack of old mail, legal documents, warranties, military recruitment literature, etc on my desk that used to have a PC.
I had a couch surfer this summer, it ended a friendship. I like my 1-bedroom cave and the personal space it provides, I'll leave my dishes on the coffee table for a day or two, my sink has enough hair on it that I'm thinking about grooming it and giving it a name, and the carpet needs a good vacuming (my vacum is a piece of crap, my brother has a new one he has offered to let me borrow, but every time the mood strikes me it's during quiet hours), but all in all it's not that bad. by not that bad, I mean nothing that an hour or two of cleaning couldn't fix.
On the rare occaision that I have a date I do budget time to clean the crap out of the place and buy the neighbors a bag of pot so they're not having a domestic dispute when I return  , but if it's been a long week at work or if I just decide to spend the weekend on the couch for general purposes then martha stewart be damned! I'm not leaving unless there's a sale on Ramen!

I am absolutely OCD about my apartment (and my car) being clean.
I'm very very allergic to dust, so that gets done almost every day. The carpets get vacummed twice a week (it would be more if I actually had a vacuum..right now I have to borrow my Mom's). All th fish tank filters get changed every week and the reptiles cages get cleaned out everyday.
The only issues I'm having right now is that I have a white dog and a car with a black interior..and my bf is a pig..especially in the kitchen.
And Jester....I'll be in the Keys at the end of Jan. If you still need help cleaning let me know. :)

I try to keep my house clean. But, because I'm never home, it's difficult. Oh, and I have a cat who gets into everything :p Other than that, the place is pretty clean. Not spotless, but clean. Most of the clutter is confined to my bedroom, office, and workshop.

Yes. Big time. I live in a house with 4 other guys, one of the rules is to keep the living room, the kitchen and the areas where guests are going to roam clean. Bedrooms are fair game. My bedroom is a mess, there's piles of clothes in various places, CDs scattered, and then some. On my desk there is the following: A bunch of unsharpened pencils, a few Frank Zappa cds, some guitar strings, a pen, my printer, a Chelsea scarf, and a roll of tape.
In short, yes I am a slob.
