Oy, I've been busy as heck! Sorry about that kids!

So yeah, as a few of you know, I'm in a burlesque troupe.

Ok that wasn't so hard to say. ;) As you may or may not know, burlesque is make a come back. We're talking the "classy" strip tease if you will. We're very vintage with our look, music and movement. Nothing past roughly 1960 unless it has the classic feel (i.e. Christina Agulara, Squirrel Nut Zippers, et al) Heck, most of us could make showing a collarbone hot while wearing a full snow suit. The best part, we're so diverse in looks. 5 foot nothing to 6'2", chubby to svelte, black/blonde/red headed and everything in between. We work hard and we're proud of it.

That said, I need help. We have a very last minute show and while I have my first solo act thrown together, I'm stumped on the second. We decided since a lot are doing one sultry and one more comedic, that hey, I could do a polka! Yes, we're talking a dress like in Ms Congeniality here. I cannot find a song for the life of me. I thought "Beer Barrel Polka" but I cannot find a clean (good sounding) enough version. Then I thought maybe "In Heaven There is No Beer" but I don't know if that would be offensive. LOL which sounds odd because I was also thinking of "She's too fat for me" since I'm the chubby one of the group. My friends vetoed that one since I'd be putting myself down and they didn't like that idea.

So can ANYONE point me out some great polkas that involve an accordion that are faster paced? It's going to be a fun piece all in all (think um...strip tease using said accordion). Heck, even some tips for the costume or dance would also be greatly appreciated. I know some polka moves but dang it's been a while since I've done them!

MASSIVE hugs if you guys can think of things!! Our show is on the 14th (for those of you near Omaha, it's at Nomads) and I'm nervous as heck. I'm used to doing one solo! Again, sorry that this is an odd and rather mature subject. I just figured you guys would have some great advice knowing the diversity of this group. Love to you all!

P.S. if you're curious, my other one is "Why don't you do right" and yes, I'm using the Rodger Rabbit version. LOL I even have the tail attached to my girdle and ears that pop up from my hair at the end. If that doesn't get me some laughs I'll be sad.

Not sure if this would count, but you could use anything by Weird Al Yankovic - if you were going for a comedic route. Weird Al is a huge fan of polka music and his albums routinely include at least one polka-themed number.

LOL You're the fifth person to recommend him!! I suppose I need to invade DBF's Weird Al's stash eh? Does he sound vintage at all? I know some of his songs, just not a lot of them.

Okay, I have an admission to make, here...

I love polka music. :ashamed:

Try a song called Doghouse Polka by Babe Wagner. Lemme see if I can find a copy of it online to listen to...I'll be right back, Lil Bunny.

Okay, I'm back. On second thought, I don't know if there's an accordion in it. But the song just has a 'striptease' feel to it, to me.

Scroll down and you can listen to a snatch of it. It's number 12. I'll post again in a few, lemme see if I can come up with anything else. I actually have quite a collection on polka music, I love cleaning to it because it's so damn upbeat.

I despise polka.

That being said, I used to DJ weddings....so I played a few of them from time to time.

Now, I can't tell you names, but I CAN tell you how to go about doing what you want to do. (No, I didn't post just to say I hate polka....I did it to help, damnit!)

Go to your local music store, and ask for polka. Almost guaranteed that they'll have several CDs of polkas, usually a whole collection on one CD. Look for one that has Beer Barrel Polka and says something about "classics"....it should have all the big ones. If for some reason you don't have any music stores in your area, check amazon.com. They are guaranteed to have something.

And I wish I could see your routine. Even if it does have polka. (Which to me is still far better than, say, country music. )

Break a leg, kiddo!

DO THE STRIP POLKA!!!

Its actually a song. If you like, I can dig up the name of who sings it and where to get it once I get home. Its one of my favorite songs to listen to as its just so darn fun.

It goes something along the lines of :

She always plays the polka when she strips to make a hasty exit if she trips.

and

'all the boys chant 'take it off, take it off, down in front!''

It CAN be a comedic number and it just be awesome.

You could always go to amazon.com & type in "Polkas" in the search box & see what they have.

LOL ok you guys have me cracking up! We're going over different options (and laying around not wanting to move) so I'll keep ya posted with what we pick. Hopefully if things go well we will have video. If that happens, I'll post y'all a link to enjoy. ;)
