View Full Version : I'm buried!
My car, that is.
After yesterday's storm, there's over 6 inches of snow on the ground.
According to my lease, in weather like this, we must park on the street so that the plows can plow our driveway. We don't have garages.
I was the only one out of all 5 buildings to park on the street. Cuz guess what? No one plowed the parking lot! Everyone else that lives here is parked in their spots.
So the plow that went down the street plowed and buried/blocked everyone on the street in plowed snow!
Working 3rd shift, and with this weather upon us, it's way too hard to know when the plow is going to come plow our parking lot. I can't lose sleep and stay up all day waiting. At the same time, I can't risk getting myself unburied, and then parking in the parking lot, and then get buried AGAIN by plowed snow.
Fortunately, my parents have to brave a ride to the big city today because the dryer died and they need to go to Best Buy to get a new one. So they are going to stop and buy me a shovel while they are there so I can unbury myself a little later today.
THIS SUCKS. I hate being buried and not knowing when they are going to come plow my driveway.
I'm also an idiot who doesn't know which side of the street is the even/odd for night parking. I can't see because half of my car is buried, so I don't even know if I got a ticket or not.

I feel your pain.
I'm currently snowed in, too. And its Sunday, so they are none too quick to clear our condo parking lot. Unlike the rest of the residents here, I have to get to work today.
We use a private snow clearing service. There's no reason why they couldn't get out here on a Sunday morning as quickly as they would on a weekday....but here it is, 10 am, and no plow in sight.
The plow just arrived here. They use a private plowing service for the parking lot, so it's safe to assume that it was most likely a special favor that they even showed up to plow the parking lot period.
Now it just needs to not snow anymore today, and I need my shovel and I will go back to my spot.
I should be thankful they even showed up. I heard from my neighbor that the actual roads weren't even plowed until 5 or 6 am this morning. So all night last night, the roads weren't plowed. With as much snow as there was! Good thing I didn't go to work. I would have never made it!

Up here, they tend to enact winter parking bans so you can't park on the street, or you risk being towed.
When I lived in Mass., my landlord seemed to have a more sensible winter parking policy. Our lot was across the street from the building, and when a storm came through, the first thing they'd do is have their plow person come in and plow a stretch down the middle of the lot to make it easier for us to get out of our spots. Then, most people would be able to dig themselves out the rest of the way and go to work. Those of us who were left would have to move our cars when the plow truck returned and honked its horn to alert us. If we didn't, we were plowed in and a strike was put on our record. Three strikes, and you're out of the parking lot.

Hey at least you have someone else who comes and plows for you. My husband has to shovel our driveway that is about 100 feet long and 15 feet wide. Snowthrowers run about $500+ depending on HP and features. We don't have that kind of money, so shoveling it is. However, if he goes out and goes over the driveway about once an hour during snowstorms (if he's home), it doesn't get too bad.
When I lived in an apartment complex, I was the last building in a rather large complex. We had three feet of snow -- the largest storm we had in years. Because of the amount of snow, the plow did a path through through extensive number of streets first because it was such a massive job.
So, I dug a 30 foot driveway to my parking spot.
Guess what? My neighbor thought the snow fairies must have dug it because when I came back, guess who was parked in it?
I parked behind him and didn't move until I was good and ready. I wasn't good and ready for three days.
Screw 'em if they can't take a joke.

The only thing we are getting is freezing rain. I went out to my car to drive it back to south campus and it was covered in ice. Odds are it'll turn into snow over night.
Last night, the idiot plows decided (where my parents live) that they weren't going to plow residential areas. So all the excess snow got plowed into intersections by residential areas.
My little brother was coming home from K-Mart yesterday (luckily he only lives 1 mile away from work) and he got stuck in that intersection. My dad had to come dig him out. It was hard with all those people passing by, nearly hitting my brother's car!
Update: my car is unburied and back in its spot :)

Well, that's one nice thing about living down here....I was running around in short sleeves today. :D
Oh, it will probably get cold in January or February, and may even snow, which would rock. I love snow. I don't like cold, but I like snow.
Hey, I was on the news! For being a dumbass!
"Local law enforcement and street departments want to remind everyone about off-street parking laws in effect from midnight to seven a.m. You are to park on the even or odd side of the street according to what number day it is. You can be ticketed or risk being plowed in if you park on the wrong side of the road."

We aren't allowed to park on the streets back home period if it's going to snow.

I love snow. I don't like cold, but I like snow.
People ask me about that all the time. "What, you don't miss snow? You don't like snow?"
I tell them, hey, I LOVE snow. I just hate the temperatures needed to get the stuff!

Interestingly, on the rare occasion that it actually does snow, and the even rarer occasion that it actually STICKS and piles up a bit, often it warms up if the sun comes out. Expecially if there's a lot of ice in it. I think all that shiny white ice reflect sun energy back up or something. I've actually gone sledding in just jeans and a tshirt.
Granted, that is not common, but it's not unheard of. What's really awesome is when it snows, glazes over, then the sun comes out and makes swirling steam rise up out of the ground. That's georgeous.
