Well it took me a while to announce this, but we have a new family member. As many of you remember, we lost our wonderful Yellow Lab Ike to cancer in September. It was an incredibly painful and difficult three months not having an animal. Our house didn't feel like a home and we didn't really want to be there. Things became tense and there was some sniping back and forth among the family members because there wasn't that calming force that Ike seemed to provide.
Well, just last Saturday we adopted a 1 year old Yellow Lab male named Theodore from the same breeder where Ike came from. They are a place called Freedom Guide Dogs (http://www.freedomguidedogs.org/). They are a not for profit organization who breeds these dogs to help the blind persons to be able to function in a world so dependent on sight.
He is such an amazing dog and something we needed in the worst way. Theo has certainly made the holidays a bit brighter for all of us. I am sure he feels the same way as he finally has a home. Our house finally feels like a home again. It is indescribable the feeling that we have right now knowing we have someone to greet us anytime we walk in the house.
There is not a question in my mind that Ike guided us to Theo because he knew how much we needed him. OF course, we can still feel Ike's presence in the house, not only helping us, but showing Theo the ropes. He's got a lot to learn, but I know that he will be such a great dog.
Thanks for your support during the difficult times we went through with Ike's illness and if you could now give that support and prayers to Theo as he adapts to his new home.
Pictures of Theo will be forthcoming! :)
