I didnt see this done anywhere yet, so I was just going to pop a question for all you karaoke-ers out there:
What's the funniest Karaoke experience you've ever had, and what are your, if any karaoke traditions, or favorite songs you like to do?
Personally, I sing Backstreet Boys to random people, and I'll do a meatloaf song or michael jackson if im feelin silly.

My sister and I went to a karaoke night at an authentic Japanese restaurant once. The Japanese take their karaoke very seriously. They sang all sorts of Japanese songs we had never heard, and some of these people were very very good.
She and I butchered "Man on the Moon" by REM. We were terrible. I thought we'd be booed out of the place, but we received a standing ovation! They weren't even being sarcastic. They seemed genuinely amused by these two Canadian girls having such a good time with them.
It was a lot of fun.

One time, when my wife still came out to the shows with me, she was trying to sing, and the DJ stood behind her and kept whispering the word "Penis" at her. It wasn't long before she messed up.
My friend Denyelle and I sometimes sing together, and sometimes alter the words a bit. Our favorite is "Summer Nights."
"Did she put up a fight?" = "Did she swallow or bite?"
"Could she get me a friend?" = "I did her and her friend"
"So I told her we'd still be friends" was followed by, "And she bought it!"
"Wonder what she's doing now" = "Wonder who she's doing now"
"Ripped at the seams" = "She ripped off my jeans"

As far as ACTUAL karaoke, the only incident I can remember (which probably means there are more, but I was drunk) is Nickelback's "How You Remind Me"...and BOY did I butcher it. In any case, everyone was drunk, so no biggie. As far as Karaoke Revolution, though, I hold the current records in my household for Billie Jean, Ladies Night, and When a Man Loves a Woman. Fun stuff, that. I really ought to get out and do it in public more often.

I went to a Hello Kitty-themed kareoke joint in Tokyo. Yikes! If we all hadn't been half-smashed on Japanese beer we would have been horrified by all the pink cuteness.
Nothing funnier than watching drunk gai-jin try to remember the (Japanese) words to their favorite anime theme songs. The best was our guide though (he was Japanese). He sang the "Dragonball Z" ending song. It was hilarious!

Oh I have stories...lol....
One night I was out drinking with my ex about 3 months after we broke up. Myself and some other the other girls got bored. So we put his sholder length hair in pigtails , put full makeup on him. made him trade outfirts with one of the other girls and forced him to sing "i'm just a girl" this is where I point out that he was a Karaoke DJ. and yes I have pics. lol.
But around here when I go to karaoke bars I get treated like a vip. I sing pretty well and know way too many people. I have a secured table anywhere and usually never have to pay for drinks. lol.
I remember walking into a Karaoke place myself and any of my friends have never been to. All it took was for me to get one and a half songs out before the bar was buying my drinks lol.

Ah, karaoke. :D
I am a fan. I do it often. Sadly, I can't sing worth a lick. Luckily, I can do a pretty damn impressive impression of Bob Dylan. Even more luckily, Bob Dylan can't sing either.
I usually do "Like a Rolling Stone," and have been known to get standing ovations here and there for some of my better renditions of it. I have recently started trying other Dylan songs, and have not been half bad at it. Yes, I have tried non-Dylan songs. Did I not mention that I can't sing worth a lick?
At my usual karaoke bar in town, there used to be the same DJ there for a couple years, and it got to the point where I could just walk into the bar, nod or wave at her, and my "Like a Rolling Stone" would be put into the rotation. I didn't need to write anything down. It would freak some of my friends out. "Dude, you gonna sing?" "Yep." "Well then put your song in!" "I already have." "But you haven't moved!" "I know."
...and sometimes alter the words a bit.
When I first started doing karaoke at a bar in Phoenix, there was one song that the DJ and one of the managers would do every time, but with altered words. To wit, one would be Julio and one would be Willie (both good impressions), and they would do their version of "To All the Girls I've Loved Before." Their version, though, was "To All the Girls I've Banged Before." And they often changed the lyrics on the fly, as it wasn't always the same. It was quite amusing.
At that same bar, there was a regular who did a mean Axl Rose. As I've said, I do a damn good Bob Dylan. One time, we did an Axl/Dylan duet of "Knockin' on Heaven's Door." Brought the house down.
Another time, again at the same bar, another patron played harmonica during the parts between verses in "Like a Rolling Stone." It was very cool. Actually, that may have been the time this rather inebriated (but cute) girl came up to me, peered into my face after I had finished, and said, "Good lord....you DO look like Dylan!" I suppose I do bear a small resemblance to a young Dylan.....but the look is enhanced when I am wearing sunglasses and am clean-shaven but with a couple days' growth on my face, as opposed to my current goatee look.

Funniest kareoke moment; singing "Always Look On The Bright Side Of Life" with a few mates; as the song progressed I couldn't help but notice people getting up to join us onstage, at the end the entire hall was onstage bellowing out the song.
My songs are as follows:
Tainted Love - Soft Cell
Summer Of 69 - Bryan Adams
Addicted To Love - Robert Palmer
I Love Rock And Roll - Joan Jett
Tears Are Falling - Kiss
I can pretty much do any song I choose, as long as it's either sung by a man or a woman with a voice like mine.

I was at a party one night with a bunch of our friends and they talked me and V into singing that song. Let me tell you, it is quite amusing singing that song, with those lines, except he sings "ripped off her jeans", with a gay guy!
My favorite was with a bunch of the same people one night and I sang "Gimme One Reason" by Tracy Chapman. One of the guys who had not heard me sing it before started making fun of it and my hubby turned around and said "have you heard her sing it?" I started on it and the next thing I know, C is on his knees at my feet, looking up at me saying "Can I be your groupie?" I couldn't finish the song I was laughing so hard. I also like singing "Jolene" and "Delta Dawn."
