Sorry, I haven't had much time to be around! But I wanted to update you all on the situations I've been facing.
In some areas I'm getting a reprieve, and in some areas I keep getting hammered. First, the bad.
I'm having arguements with my ex-roommate's mother about the final bills. We were behind on a few of them (money issues, ergh) and she's refusing to believe that her son owes about 300 in back-paid bills. I had to pay it too, I have the paperwork. Honestly, I don't want to fight this with everything else going on. I might just have my attorney tell her to pay up as she has power of attorney for her son or we'll take her to court.
The other bad news is regarding the bankruptcy, and this was an error on my part. When I filed a few months ago, I've been trying so hard to save up the money to finish paying the legal fees. I sent the notices to my creditors to get the calls and mail to stop, but unfortunately, I did not send them with delivery confirmation (yes, I was that broke.)
The post office screwed up when my ex roommate filled out a change of address form. For some reason, the post office redirected ALL mail going to our address, including my things. As a result, I didn't get mail for the last two weeks until I finally straightened it out with the post office and got all my stuff back, and lo and behold, I'm being taken to court on multiple issues from my creditors. I SHOULD have sent the letters with delivery confirmation so that wouldn't have happened, but that means now that what was supposed to be a painless process that was only going to take 60 days tops to resolve is now going to take months of legal battles involving my attorney. Fortunately, the records show the stay WAS filed, so I might actually get money out of the harassment suits that will be counterfiled.
Ugh. I always have the option to represent myself in court but having been there a year ago I have no desire to do it again, plus, I know nothing of bankruptcy law and know I would get ripped to shreds in court without some miraculous Phoenix Wright style OBJECTION!
Car needs some work done, fortunately, I can do most of it myself.
The good news:
I FINALLY found a new roommate who actually seems pretty chill. He lost his home during the fires in San Diego and we haven't really spoken much. We haven't really opened up becuase I believe we were both kind of forced into the situation. But all I know is I have a roof over my head now till the end of next month, then no idea what happens after. But having 6 weeks to plan is alot better than having a week and a half of pure panic...
Thanks for the kind words and thoughts everyone - I'm not in the clear, not by a long shot, but at least it seems the bell rang on my latest round with life and I'm getting a breather in the corner, however short it may last :D
