View Full Version : Both my neighbors are moving

I share a building with two other neighbors.

The upstairs neighbor moved yesterday. Good. I never quite got used to the idea of his being in the Megan's Law database.

Then I found out my downstairs neighbor is in the process of moving and will be completely gone by mid-January. That's bad... she was the perfect neighbor.

Now I get to spend weeks or months waiting to see the new neighbors my landlord sticks me with. I still have my whimsical hope that the landlord will rent to a single woman who finds cable guys irresistible. (That's a triumph of hope over experience... the only thing worse than dating a co-worker is dating a neighbor.)

Hmmm... I should threaten to move myself. Maybe the landlord will cut me a deal to keep the place from being completely vacant.

Hehee...go luck with that...

Just be thankful if it does stay vacant!

I'd have given anything a year ago to not have any neighbors. Even now, I'd give anything for Sheriff and Tommy Lee and Kid Rock to move away. I'd give anything to be able to smoke in peace and to not have to worry about some stupid slut parking in the handicapped spot or god forbid MY spot or my other neighbor's spot. I'd give anything to not have to see the two of the dirty boys walking around getting the mail in only their BOXERS in the summer, and I'd give anything to not have to pull up into my spot and see Tommy Lee with the shades open in his kitchen walking around in his boxers. YUCK!

Alas, such will not be the case. My landlord will rent to just about anybody, particularly if they qualify for Section 8 low-income rent subsidies. Nothing particularly wrong with Section 8, but some of my neighbors have been real winners... Megan's Law guy couldn't begin to compete with Roach Man. I swear he kept them as pets. "Why should it bother anybody else how I live?" Um... because when you moved out, they had to shovel the roach carcasses in your apartment into garbage bags... not just one bag, but bags! (And, of course, his roaches liked to come down to the second and first floor to visit... fortunately, they were happy enough on the third floor that they never actually moved in).

Oi, now I see your reasoning. The property management company that my ex roomate and I rented from were very fond of people like that as well. It was the whole charging working class tenants an arm and a leg and a puppy to make up for the losses of the tenants who didn't work and rarely paid rent. Too scared to evict them, they had nothing to liquidate, therefore, never were able to charge them for damages and unpaid rent.

Here's to wishing with you for good neighbors!
