Did anyone watch the first outdoor NHL game played in the USA between the Buffalo Sabres and the Pittsburgh Penguins?
I loved it! It was so awesome to see Ralph Wilson Stadium (made for football games) PACKED full of fans. It really goes to show that Americans still do love hockey. Why else would they come out to see a game that went into shootout and sit in the snow until the very end? (A great end to the game, by the way)
I also thought it was funny to see the players reactions to such a loud stadium. I mean, these are guys who are used to 20,000 screaming fans, not 70,000. They really seemed dumbstruck at how loud things can get (especially in shootout).
And of course Sid the Kid won it all for the Pens. Gotta love hockey!
I hope this becomes a tradition in the NHL: one outdoor game a year. It would be great for the league and the fans, plus the players really seemed to enjoy it.
